I hit 166 there in my Genesis, then got popped by a trooper on the decel going 120. Not a cheap ticket..

How much? :(

Just looked up Bodfish on Twistypedia, that's a winner! I'll have to take different routes to Death Valley and back to ride all of the awesome roads in the area :ride

Last summer I drove to Vegas via Death Valley. Man, those roads are smoooooth, no traffice, isolated, and no issues (if you know what I mean). Took me 12 hrs to Vegas, but then I did a lot of sightseeing and stopping at the visitor's points. I told myself I'll be back in my Corvette doing the same trip.

On a bike, it would be heavenly.... :ride Although I'd wanna go with a group of friends; it is pretty lonely there. And not sure what the gas station situation would be, will need to fill up at every gas station on the way due to long distances. Must have AAA, just in case....

The roads there are AWESOME, I was shocked when I passed through. Some of the most beautiful asphalt I've ever laid eyes on. I'm really excited to go back, because the only other time I visited I literally just passed through without seeing anything.

I'm pretty careful about gas! There are a good number of places, but I'm planning on filling up near Lake Isabella which should leave me with plenty of gas to reach Stovepipe Wells (skipping the Panamint Springs station since it's wicked expensive). I'll post my Google Maps route soon, I think I have it pretty much pinned down :thumbup

Once you get across the Central Valley (which can be a real drag), there are tons of great roads in the Sierras.

I posted a whole list a couple of years ago. Dig through this thread: https://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=508745

This thread lists a few near Sacramento that might not be on the other list: https://www.bayarearidersforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=525049

I do the trip out to death valley every memorial day. On a Z900 I filled up in lone pine, went out to Stovepipe wells and back to lone pine on the same tank of gas. I did have 2 liters of fuel on me in case I ran out. There isn't any 91 octane in the park on the main roads. To do some exploring you either need a big gas tank, a bike that runs on the cheap stuff, or extra gas with you.

I am headed out that way on the new to me R1200R. It should be great fun on that bike. I really like the twisties going through the ridge that drops you into the valley. Those are some fun roads.

BMW, at least my 1200 GSA, takes 87 octane gas w/o a problem. I ran it once or twice, but usually get 91 just b/c with my gas mileage it's not a cost issue.

Last Friday, me and a couple of buddies went to Santa Barbara. Hollister, 25, Indian Valley to Paso. Slabbed to SB. We stayed at the La Quinta on State St. crawling distance from downtown. Lots of action on State St to keep us busy all evening. On Saturday we went up and back down 33, had lunch at the Rock Store. Mulholland was closed due to a slide. Took Hwy 1 through Malibu and ended up in Santa Maria for a the night. Slabbed home on 101 because one of the boys wanted to get home. I easily could have done a more scenic route. I was able to talk them into taking 154 past Lake Cachuma and they were glad I did.
Great 3 day weekend.

Good choice on 154, I really like that ride. You should set this up as a group ride some time. I would be down.

Hello all, this is quite late, but I have a bit of a ride report! I slabbed it down to Santa Margarita and took 58 to 178 up to Lake Isabella, where my progress was halted by freezing rain (this was back in February - like I said, it's been a while since I first posted). I spent the night at a KOA campground and headed back down Kern Canyon in a snow flurry the next morning. The roads were awesome though and I'm planning on going back sometime! Thanks for the suggestions!
