Everything Audio-related

I've seen a few audiophile threads pop up here and there in the sink but nothing here in non-moto. Figured I'd start something up so we have a resource for people looking to upgrade their gear and whatnot.

For starters, I wouldn't quite call myself an audiophile...yet. I'm on my way. I definitely have a low tolerance for craptastic cheap stuff and can tell the difference clearly between super cheap and medium/high quality, but my ears aren't quite yet able to fully appreciate audiophile level gear (neither can my wallet).

Gear I have currently:

Home theater:
Bose Lifestyle V20 5.1 surround

I bought these in IIRC 2006 ish, or maybe it was 2008. Somewhere around there. I replaced a full Cambridge Soundworks setup with it, because I liked how much more compact and easy to move they were - and I couldn't tell the difference in sound quality aside from at very high volumes, far louder than I typically listened to in apartment living conditions. They've worked fantastically over the years and still serve me well.

PC speakers:
Klipsch ProMedia 2.1 THX speakers
I picked these up very recently, up until buying these I'd mainly just used headphones. Many years back, I did have a set of the Creative Gigaworks 5.1 surround sound THX speakers which also sounded fantastic, but after going through several gaming builds and eventually getting out of PC gaming I decided I didn't need the speakers either. These days, I mainly just use them for listening to music while working - and I can't recommend them enough. For $150 it's quite possibly the best bang for buck that you can get. Considering all I listen to is Pandora anyway.

Headphones:
Bose SIE2
They work well and are excellent quality compared to other stuff I've checked out in the <$200 range. There may be others that are a bit better here and there, but these are solid. Good bass, good treble, balanced scale - not overpowering on the lows or highs or mids just nice and even.

JayBird BlueBuds
Best bluetooth headphones for the price point that I could find. Long battery life, reasonably comfortable, and the best part - block out a LOT of ambient noise, meaning you don't have to blast them to hear anything. They stick out from your ears a bit, but I've worn them under my helmet on short to medium rides without much discomfort. The noise blocking works wonders for wind noise compared to other headphones I've tried while riding (haven't gone with a full custom molded setup yet though).

Will edit this more Thursday, I should really get to bed. Just wanted to start this thread for everyone. I know there's plenty out there with waaaaaay more knowledge than I have (and also way more $$$$$ invested).

Car Audio - Does anyone have time to help me setup my car amp, single 10 sub and component front speakers? located in San Jose/Campbell. I'll pay a six pack (minus one for me haha)

I love this age of electronica we sonically live in.

My first upgrade from a single speaker AM car radio was two-speaker 8-track. Now, now, I can't quite get enough into my ears at one time. Audio life is so sweet.

That's my current home theater setup which I use for music as well. I'll eventually upgrade when I am finished with school. Although I am very impressed with the sound quality from the Andrew Jones .

Tannoy 501s and a laptop. Studio quality sound (many use them as monitors) and les than $300. I used to have twin Dyna 70s and Bose 901s. So much time and $$ to dial all of it in. Never. Again.

Love this thread. Wish I could put more money into my setup, but It sounds pretty good as of right now.

Audioquest Dragonfly DAC
-feeding a-
Kenwood Basic M2A 2 Chanel Amp
-Powering some-
VMPS Model 808 3 Way Monitors

When Im not playing out loud, I'm listening through the DAC on some Audio Technica M50x headphones.

Hands down, the VMPS are the nicest speakers I have ever owned, going through JBL Century's, Acoustic Research, Advents and a few others. Even had a set of Magnepans at one point, but I could never really use them to their potential. Though the biggest upgrade for my setup is the DAC. It makes a huge difference when listening to all digital sources.

Love the Jaybird X2. Pretty awesome for earbuds, and does a pretty good job of staying in place even during an intense workout. They do block out a lot of the ambient noise, which means you don't have to crank it as loud, but there are times I wish they were a bit louder. Battery life is pretty good, I went boarding for six hours and they still weren't dead, although there were a few times the audio would cut in and out, not sure if it had something to do with the weather or altitude.

I was debating on whether to get these or the PowerBeats 2, so far I'm happy with my decision. I did try wearing it under my MC helmet, and it just wouldn't work for me, which isn't a big deal. I have a set of cheap earbuds, which I cut one side off so I can only listen in one ear. :laughing

I've had way too many headphones, but my current lineup is:

Sennheiser PX100-II - gym
Audio Technica IM70 - work
Westone 3 modified with removable cable - home
AKG K7xx Red - don't have it yet but it's on its way (might be for sale too :laughing )

I also have a Schiit Modi/Magni amp/DAC stack I use at home with my desktop. It's simple but I like it. I kind of want a portable DAC to use at work but my work laptop is weird about installing other devices on it for security reasons so I bum it with the laptop headphone jack.

I also have a Fiio X3 I was using as a portable music player but it took a shit on me so I just use my phone. I don't listen to music much on the go except for riding and at the gym so I don't need a super high quality setup.
