Enloe/Calstar Flightcare Program

The answer is: IT DEPENDS! You have to check your policy and if you aren't sure, call Kaiser and ask. They have a million different levels of coverage and many of them do cover 100% air ambulance but not all.

Bottom line: $50-$100 a year for supplemental insurance is damn cheap peace of mind.

I just called Kaiser, they said anyone who has a Kaiser health plan is covered for life flight services if it is for a medical emergency. The only variable is how much your deductible is on your plan, after the deductible it's $100.

I think it's stupid to just give this Flightcare program $100 if you're insurance already covers it. It's not a charity out there trying to help everyone out, it's an insurance company.

I just made my call to Kaiser. No clue why I haven't done that before.
The gal on the phone put me on hold to go check on the specifics of air ambulance rides.

Her words were the same, I'm covered if it is a medical emergency. Helo rides are counted under transportation (least they are for me - ymmv, so call if you aren't sure), so you'd just pay your deductible depending on what your plan is. Mine is $0 :teeth
My Kaiser insurance is pretty awesome :banana I'm going to hate when I turn 26 though :(

However, she did stress multiple times that it would only be covered if it was a medical emergency. :angel

Anyways, I figure I'd also take the time to :bump this thread since helo-specific insurance is rather cheap to have :thumbup

I wonder what kind of helo ride wouldn't qualify for a medical emergency? :dunno

Solomon, I just got my new Reach membership info back and they word their letter the same way.

The membership covers emergency and medically appropriate use of our air ambulance.

It's just legalese, I'm assuming you're fine.

ttt - if you haven't you may want to think about it, if you have, you may want to check your policy(ies) dates.

So I just signed up with CalStar today. Waiting to hear back from Reach on some questions on coverage. CalStar told me they reciprocate with Enloe and one other I forgot name of so I don't need to sign up for ALL of those..but they don't reciprocate with Reach and Reach may cover where CalStar does not..I mentioned Buttonwillow and calStar doesn't cover that track area..but does cover RFR, Thill and Sonoma(Sears Pouint) as well as anywhere on the roads I may need life flight.

I finally called my insurance company..Aetna..to find out what THEY will cover and I would basically be at minimum out of pocket my deductable of $5000. Then it is split 70/30 if the balance..so if the whole bill is 35,000, my OOP is $10K. Still a big chunk of change. It would still be worth it for me to sign up with EVERY life flight program and pay the annual membership fee then to wing it with my insurance! But I don't need all of them of course...as long as at least two of them cover track locations and my usual riding areas..I should be good!

:ride

Definitely worth the peace of mind for 50-100 per year!!

THill is covered by Enloe careflight 3, with back up from reach 7, and CHP H20. RFR is covered by Reno flightcare with backup from Calstar 11 out of Tahoe. Sears Point is covered by CalStar 6 with back up from Reach. So it is a good idea to buy both calstar's insurance which is partners with Enloe and Reno, and Reach's insurance.

from the REACH website. Make sure you have health insurance..sounds like a no brainer but

If you do not have current health insurance at the time of transport, membership covers fifty percent of the total charges of an emergency air ambulance transport by REACH; you will be responsible for the remainder of the bill.

I live in Chico and Enloe is right here, and yes their program is AMAZING! We had a local rider make the trip from Thunder Hill to the ER and his cost would have been over $20K but the cost was $0.00

You can also use my local club as a group discount. " NorCalRiders.org "

Enloes program covers quite an area with affiliates

Reciprocity - YES!

Just contacted Enloe today to see if my NorCal CALSTAR family membership is recipricol. YES! it is, so for Thill, I don't need to join another.

I do still need to join with REACH since they are not recipricol with CALSTAR and it is a 50/50 chance for either if you need them on the North Coast.

Enloe Flightcare

I just signed up for the Enloe Flightcare (includes Calstar).
For the $30 group membership price just add "Thunderhill" as the group name.

I'm signing up for Reach as well
