Hello everyone,

I planned a 10 day trip to Yellowstone earlier but something went terribly wrong with life, last minute
I am back up with a 7 day plan to Ely => Utah => Mohave ( I will do Yellowstone next year )

Please check it out and advice : https://goo.gl/maps/1K2ifcUwzY2Jaw6V7

Potential date : 09/20
Moto : 08-Connie
I want to stay in hotels, I will ride alone and mojave is optional

Thanks in advance

Highway 50 is fun but can also eat rear tires if you take the opportunity to see how far you can twist your throttle. Start with good rubber is my advice. Not sure the hotel situation on hwy 50 but I stayed in a cool old hotel in eureka nv across from the old court house. I’ll try to find and post a pic.

Terrible pic but this place. They had the bar open downstairs and nice rooms upstairs. By the time I got on to 15 in Utah my rear tire was toast. Luckily rockymountain mc/atv was close by in Payson and had a new tire for me.

Nice, here's a slight variant of the loop if want to catch a ferry ride across Lake Powell. https://tinyurl.com/y3fmwe5d
ETA: I took a closer look at the road into Boulder, looks like road "BLM 12000" maintained gravel. Not really suitable for the Connie. On sat view I saw what appears to be a suburban? pulling a trailer so it's passable in some form.

Definitely start with new rubber, the Interstates in Utah are often 80 mph and 95 has high speed sweepers. If you have a half hour take scenic 143 south/west from Panguitch to Cedar Breaks National Monument to 148 then 14 west to Cedar City and the 15. I’d pass on the ferry time and sand wise. East from 12 at Boulder the BLM 12000 is paved and geologically interesting like most of 12 and 95.
Just so you know what you’re getting into 191 used to be highway 666.

That would be cool.

It should be noted that on the Utah side of Lake Powell, there's not a lot of gas opportunities. Just FYI.

I'd pass on anything Mojave/Needles/DV/area etc. I did it a few weeks ago (by necessity- during the "highest ever recorded temps" day) and it was the most miserable ride ever. I hit Yucca Valley coming west at 730am and it was already 110-115. I'd imagine the forecasts for those areas are still 100-110 in late September.

I would consider instead of continuing on 191 and 163 taking 95 north/west from Blanding then 261 south. Less traffic better funner roads. The negative is you’d be riding Down the Moki Dugway.

Gas when you can on 50 and in Utah and or ride at a moderate pace if possible.

New tire in Payson, AZ? Google maps says Eureka to Payson is 660 mi. Are you talking about a different route?

Wife and I along with a couple friends did Ely to Utah with 50 and the pony express trail (which is where the pic was taken with wife doing the BARF salute BTW) in JULY and it was HOOOOT! Recommend cool vests as they save our bacon there as well as Kimberly Idaho and HElls canyon....aptly named.....

Eureka, NV. to Payson, Ut 305.9 miles at a high rate of speed ate my Q3 rear tire. It was a Saturday and the sun was getting low when I noticed the tire. I tried calling a Yamaha dealer south of Salt Lake because they were the closest and they hadn't heard of the fz-09 (it was a new model at the time but still I was shocked). Google turned up Rusty's Custom Motorcycles and he told me about Rocky Mountain to grab a tire and stayed open late to change it for me. Rusty saved my bacon that day!

Sounds like you're going to have one rad trip. Have absolutely loved the times I've gotten to spend out in the Moab area. You're so close to just keep heading east from the Moab and on to Ouray/Million Dollar Highway... but that's probably a different trip. Cannot recommend that whole area enough.

Route looks pretty solid, but I'd recommend heading south where 12 and 89 meet (towards Hatch), then take 9 west to Hurricane and back to the freeway. You get to avoid a rather monotonous stretch of interstate 15 with the fun bonus of twisties, a long tunnel, and all the awesomeness that is Zion.

And seconding the pass on the Mojave/Needles/DV/area via moto, unless you have to.

For some reason I thought I included a suggestion for Western Colorado. A previous poster included it but I'll second it- I'd go check out Black Canyon (Gunnison Natl. Park) and head down through Ouray/Silverton/Durango before looping back.

Google would only let me change so much on the map so I had to do two...

Check out the Colorado portion loop I changed on this map: https://goo.gl/maps/Uu5cn37sdQsPFmEF9

and then Cedar City, UT, I changed (mainly for the California portion coming back for Nevada and coming over the Sierras. The Vegas/desert route really sucks. Some of my favorite roads: https://goo.gl/maps/qvewnbtpbYrCtjvF6

I donno what went wrong but I always wanted to run through ZION and yes it makes sense whatever you pointed out.

This looks more realistic now https://goo.gl/maps/SKaVu8ZD757Gb3Va6
I ll start looking for potential places to stay amid this COVID-Stuff

That looks good except for the California return. You won't make it on 120 though Yosemite without park reservations and the Bluejay fire is burning on both sides of the highway as of this morning. That 108/49/140/132 route is one of my favorites and traffic is sparse.

I am convinced that something in google is trying to act super-smart and editing the map after I send the link ( using alternate routes )

Whatever, You are right again !!!
I am not going through yesomite my idea is to take either 4 or 108 both ways

Thanks
Hardy
