Don't PM LEO Forum Mods for advice. This means you!

:rant Private messages requesting advice pretty much defeat the purpose of BARF and the LEO forum.

If it is a question worth asking, it is worth asking in the open forum. Others may have had the same experience and/or done significant research on the topic and you can benefit from that here. The truth is, 1-on-1 does little to add to the value of this forum and becomes a very time-consuming proposition.

For that reason, PMs for 1-on-1 advice will generally be ignored.

Good luck and stay safe! :thumbup

05-26-08 UPDATE:
I am still getting PMs for 1-on-1 advice. I usually ask people to kindly post their questions in the forum, because that is the purpose of BARF.. to exchange information among the forum participants. I know I am repeating myself, but it really defeats the purpose to carry on off-line when you can get a much better response from a group of LEO's and others that may have experienced your situation (or know someone that has) and could report their relevant findings and experiences. Also, if anyone happens to find themselves in the same (or similar) situation.. it may help them avoid problems or negotiate the situation more gracefully.

See, it is all about group input and group learning.. that does not happen when we communicate via PM.. I would potentially end up answering the same question over and over and people that PM me would only get my limited perspective. If I gave bad info, who would call me on it? I have seen LEO's give bad or outdated info in the forums.. I have even been corrected a few times myself.

That is why we participate in a forum, so we can all benefit and ensure the info being given out is peer reviewed and as accurate as possible.

So, please post any questions in the forums. If you send a PM and it is ignored.. that is the prerogative of the receiver. If you start a PM with “I know we aren’t supposed to ask 1-on-1 questions of Mod via PM but….” then please don’t expect a response. If the issue is particularly delicate, simply leave out or change any particulars to retain your anonymity. No problem. Change males to females, leave out names, use Mars PD, change the specific location to another county, say "a friend of mine...". No biggie, most everyone seems to do that anyhow.
