Damn...so much has changed

Not sure I'm riding ANY of the same bikes anymore. Replaced my '17 E29 Comp with an '18 E29 Ohlins Coil edition. Yep, running full Ohlins on a bicycle.

My XC bike was stolen. Insurance check covered most of the cost of a used replacement. Good timing, as I ran across a used Pro bike, this bike ridden to the WIN at the Leadville 100.

Road bike is a '14 Cannondale SuperSix. Carbon all around, DuraAce, etc. Old, but still good (bought used for a great deal.

ohlins on a bicycle has me excited

i'm currently suffering a trek marlin 5 as my first 'mountainbike' but the fucker has a sticker saying i can't even ride hard on it wtf? the derailleur is pretty bad too...

i recently rented a fezzari wire peak elite ebike for the day and rode some good downhill trails. it is great to be able to keep up with my brother for the day even though i don't have his endurance yet. that bike is badass. the trek sucks compared to it...at least the trek will only see the iron horse trail and maybe some briones...

cannondale is nice, that's what my brother was riding...single fork setup if that puts an age on it :laughing

Check out these guys ---> https://dvosuspension.com/

They are based out of LA by Magic Mountain and some of the best riders in the world run their gear, I run their forks and rear shock on my V10 & it makes a world of difference in suspension and how the bike handles the bumps :teeth

would it be sacrilege to put the dvo emerald inverted on a marlin 5 frame? :rofl

I would definitely recommend against spending anything on a Marlin. Ride it until you can afford something better. Sell it in the spring, and move on.

All the suspensions are great. Even the cheap Rockshox Yari was fantastic.

I'll take that recommendation and ride it while looking forward to my next platform.

I'd like to take my time and build a bike, any particular frame makers to look at or steer clear from?

Thanks! :thumbup :ride

I used to mountain bike tons, moved to SF from Colorado and did a few rides in Marin, China Camp, Santa Rosa and it was a lot of driving for ok trails. Now my bikes are all probably vintage anyway...

'03 Specialized Enduro on which the fox shock won't hold air. Forks should be rebuilt or replaced and I need to bleed the brakes

'04 Specialized Big Hit Comp - blown rear shock (marzochi sure sucked at making rear shocks back then) and who knows if I can even find tires for the 24" rear. Also this thing is a chairlift queen and day trips to Tahoe are a bit ambitious for my old ass.

you looking to offload them? :teeth

Naw all the newfangled crap is too expensive :afm199. I just need to get them fixed up and start riding them again. Might need to work out a rack for the DRZ so i can ride to the trails, ride trails and then ride home, trying to park a car in SF sucks.

Picked up a Trek Marlin too but so far I'm loving it. I'm new to this so I really don't have anything to compare it to, but it's excellent on the climbs and the hydraulic brakes are smooth and predictable. I won't be doing anything too crazy so it should suffice for now. Hoping to check out Briones too, heard it's a nice easy going trail.

So far the iron horse trail is all my marlin has seen, towing a burley encore. I added suspension to the burley and now the kid falls asleep on the ride home, so that’s good.

I still need to check out briones and the trail, maybe in a couple weeks :ride let me know how you like it if you make it out there before I do :thumbup
