Disfunctional signature question

One user kpke reached out saying he could not change his signature.

We tried to help him.
I loaded the signature from the admin panel and looked at all the on off shit and it seemed to be OK.

I looked at his profile and it shows.

but it still is not showing in his posts.

I went back and double checked the buttons. Signature is on.
Turned it off.. turned it on. Save.

Nada.

Any body have a clue??

Might be something funky going on with filtering for spam, links or bad words. Try with a very plain signature.

Try this: Edit one of his posts in "advanced" mode. I.e., hit the Go Advanced button when the edit first comes up.

On the advanced edit page, there is a panel, Additional Options, with a box, Miscellaneous Options, with a checkbox, "Show your signature". Is it checked? If not, check it and save. Does the signature now appear in the post?

WINNER! "Show your Signature" was not checked. Looks good now.

I vaguely recall dealing with this problem for my own posts sometime long ago, so I have experimented a little to refresh my memory.

"Display signature" is a property of the post. It is not controlled by a user-level option that says something like "By default, display my signature in my posts".

The "display signature" property of the post is set when the post is SAVEd (initially or after an edit), according to the checkbox I mentioned previously.

If the user's signature is null (he doesn't have one), that checkbox does not appear in the SAVE dialog for a post, and the "display signature" property is turned off.

If the user does have a signature, the checkbox does appear at SAVE time and is checked by default, though it can be unchecked before SAVE.

To enable display of signature in posts with "display signature" off, this user must edit posts and check the "Show your signature" box.

This should all be perfectly clear now. You're welcome. :rolleyes

OMG, thanks so much! I've been back and forth through the entire admin panel looking for this! Silly user options!

Keep asking me tech questions and the answer will be :dunno

Insyder speaks your language but I don’t.

I don’t know the tech I just have ideas on how to make Barf a better resource. Kind of like motorcycles. I just ride them. :teeth

I should have made this lesson more clear:

If you don't have a signature, posts you make will have signature display disabled. If you later add a signature, new posts will show it, but old posts will not. To make the old posts display it, you would have to edit them and check the "Show your signature" box.

So if you want to remove your signature, leave something minimal in place. Then if you later re-add it, all your posts will pick it up.
