Dirt Bikers on the Bay Bridge

(note that the LEOs involved in this incident were CHP).

How do you think they should have responded? They were outnumbered and overwhelmed. It's naïve at best to think they could realistically just start pulling people over and citing them. I am curious about what your expectations of them are in that situation.

I believe his point is they have been told to stand down.

That has allowed the field to grow and to your point a futile position. At this point the most they can hope for is to pick off the easy ones and give us some good YouTube vids. :laughing

That's literally how it has always been though.

Take for example the population of San Jose Police to the population of it's city. According to wikipedia there are 959 officers in the force, and compared to the SJ population, which is over 1 million, that is only about 1 cop per 1,000 citizens. In the case of massive unrest, there is just no way to stop them all, which is the case here as well as pretty much every video we see on youtube

In my little town the story goes that a few buddies from the bay area came to town and got a big group of drivers to start doing sideshows in the small valley town this past weekend. During the migration of mad chaos a sideshow motorcyclist ended up getting hit while doing rolling burn outs in the middle of a very dark but busy 55mph intersection. The comments in the news section were asking why the cops didn't stop them?

My response was if the cops gave chase to someone doing donuts in an intersection, the driver(s) could run and potentially hit or kill an innocent bystander during the chase. Then the news and comments would be "Blood thirsty Cops kill innocent bystander over a minor traffic violation". Cop essentially "killing" someone over a "donut". So in a way, giving a freebee on a minor traffic violation is better than risking the lives of the public. Now I don't completely agree or disagree but it's just a screwed up lose lose/win win.

The pack has been growing for years. Used to be 20-30 ripping up and down Telegraph and round the lake, last few times that I've seen a group like this have been in the 1,000s...

Reminds me of the early days of critical Mass(holes), it started out with a few dozen, but before long it was many more and the impact on traffic out of the city became huge.
