Costco Kirkland Synthetic Motor Oil

Not sure if this is the right spot since it is automotive related (mods move if necessary).

I just changed the oil in my Tundra with Mobil 1 (8 quarts of 0W-20) at Wallyworld prices around $5.00 per quart in five quart jugs.

The full synthetic Kirkland oil is $21.29 for TWO five quart jugs resulting in about $2.13 per quart.

That seems so low as to make me suspicious. Can't tell what refinery is the source. Anyone know if this is legitimate quality oil (it meets all of the certification criteria)?

Warren Oil is the largest independent lubricant manufacturer and
marketer in the United States. Warren Oil markets it lubricants, both
conventional and synthetic, domestically and internationally, under

WARREN OIL brand,
LUBRIGARD brand,
ITASCA brand,
COASTAL brand
GOLD BAND brand

Here is a 5w30 virgin oil sample to show exactly the additives and the TBN of what you are buying...
In my learned opinion Kirkland brand will meet and exceed your mileage expectations...

i put it in my new to me 2007 chevy sliverado. only ~1000 miles in but it hasn't assploded yet. i plan to put it in the 2013 ford focus as well but the drain bolt was so damn tight i haven't gotten to it yet. i anticipate also no assplosions.

google had plenty of search hits, bobistheoilguy etc etc.

I guess I was amazed it was so much less than the recognized brand names. $2.13 per quart is incredibly inexpensive. Both our vehicles take 8 quarts per change so cost of components is a factor (2017 Sequoia for my wife, 2018 Tundra for me).

At my age all I need now is some sort or air powered creeper that can stand me up from laying flat on the floor.

agree, it is cheap. the jiist of BITOG threads i read (very few) is that it isn't Mobil 1 OMG BEST SYNTHETIC EVARRRRRRR!!!! synthetic, but some lesser grade something or other. fine for anything i'll ever own, frequency and a good filter are more important IMO

this, or something like it, might save your back and save me from ever finding out if that overtight drain plug is going to bring the threads out with it or not

^^^^ That would be cool if just for the crankcase but I still have to go down under to remove the skid plate (five bolts) and replace the oil filter (which needs draining first then removal).

I've looked at the EZ Creeper, which is a hand pump hydraulic lifter:

https://www.aviationpros.com/tools-...2295166/the-ez-creeper-company-inc-ez-creeper

but they want $1k for it (half of that is probably because it is aviation related, similar to anything nautical).

I've got some ideas I want to pursue. I have always done oil/filter changes on all of my vehicles going back to 1961 and I don't plan on stopping now unless there is no way for me to do this (at 71, I'm not getting any younger).

i totally forgot about the filter :laughing

a remote mount might solve the problem. i've thought about it on a few vehicles. 2 landcruisers... toyoya likes to mount the filter such that the threads face down for some reason. so messy.

for the price of that creeper, you're most of the way to a decent 2 post lift assuming you have a sufficient concrete pad for it. of course then you need the extended drain pan thing to reach the 7 feet into the air to catch the oil but accessories don't count toward the budget?

I'd LOVE a two post lift but I would have to pour a special slab for it (garage isn't tall enough). I have a good buddy in Saratoga that added a 3rd garage to his place and configured the roof height for a built-in lift. But he's too far away.

I've got some bergmenized contraption concepts rolling around in my head I might want to try. It might save my back but would probably break my neck.

That's what BRANDS! are for.

Thanks for posting that project farm link. As a huge Costcoer I was glad to see the results. I had previously purchased this oil in diesel and normal but not driving much these days so it may sit for a while before actually using it.
