Chest rig body armor - too late?

Anyone one know where to go locally?

Feel I’m late to the game in getting one.

Is it being overly Call Of Duty? I kind of feel of riots are a few miles away it may be necessary.

Ill probably get shit from this, but I ordered from AR 500 before lockdown and shit still isnt here yet. Better than nothing I suppose.

I got mine a while ago from optics planet. Was on sale. I got the 5.11 carrier. Was only $150. Very comfy as I use it with weight plates for my workouts. I think you can get the SAPI plates from AR500 or other places. I haven't got those but might look into it if things swirl down the drain.

If you get body armor, get the highest level you can afford, and if it's steel, be sure to get the full-thickness spall coating.

I got non-coated steel before I knew better. I'm still waiting for the ceramic hybrid plates I ordered in early March.

Also, Schumer just introduced a bill to ban body armor for civilians so there's that.

They are about 4 weeks backlog. Friend got 2 vests and they were very nice. Seems to have good reviews.

With the talk of banning vests for the public they are only going to get harder to find

My AR 500 came in. The side straps were complete shit so I ordered the cummerbund. Holy fuck these plates are heavy. If I dont die from a gun shot wound I think Ill die from a bad back...

The body armor ban is for anything higher rated than level 3. Level 3+ or Level 4 would be on the prohibited list. Ridiculous actually. Supposedly the Level4 SAPI plates I ordered in early-March _should_ ship this week, four months! It could have been because they're small SAPIs whereas 10x12 is more common but sheesh.

If you get shot wearing steel armor, you're probably fucked anyways.

Anti-Spall coatings don't do shit, you're just going to end up with a neck and thigh full of frag.

AR500 is for targets, with how much they weigh, you'll become one too.

Often folks defend steel armor by saying it's better than nothing, in reality a chest rig with some mags and the increased mobility is infinitely better.

I'd strongly urge you to never wear steel armor if you think you're going to be getting shot at and for anything other than weight training.

Ordered 3/25, arrived 7/15. Hoplite model 26148 sized SM SAPI.

They weigh 5#15.7oz so 6# on the dot.

The non-coated 8x10 ar500 level 3 plates are 5#7.5oz so half pound lighter for less protection all around.

If I remember correctly Kevlar will work with pistol calibers but rifle rounds will go right through it hence the ceramic and steel body armor plates in a chest rig.
