what is that?
What is Burning Man? Go here:

Burning Man Website

30,000+ people go out to the desert in Nevada for a weeklong festival of sorts. I went a few years ago and had a blast. But it wasn't so much fun for me that I've gone back or anything, but it was great to go at least once... :teeth

Note: it goes from being the empty Black Rock desert to Nevada's fifth largest city (complete with its own post office), then back to empty desert again, all within a month or so (the proper event lasts a week but there's a lot of setup and take down time of course).

Edit - more stats: the ring is something like 2 miles in diameter and so a walk around the outside is a solid 6 miles or so. Nuts.

And because I've got *nothing* to do while waiting to head out of here for the day:

Google Maps shot of the same area

The Google maps satellite images are a few years old I believe, but in the middle you can see the man is being built, the roads of Black Rock City (the city name given to Burning Man when it's going on) and that's about it. Interesting to compare the full vs. empty shots of the desert.

:blah :blah :blah

the first year i went. we knew a guy who flew up there in his airplane. a small 4 seater. we took some mushrooms and went for a ride over the event. took some nice pictures and of course it wasn't as high as that. but in that state it was fine enough.

ps the guy flying was sober. ;)

I was there this year... my first time.

What an incredible experience.
