Yeah, use the meds per instruction until the sharp pain has past. As concerned/attentive as you are, you'll know the morning you wake up and realize you don't need one.

And like HB said above, focus on healing now. You can decide about riding later. Let us know if you need help getting bikes on battery tenders or prepped to be off the road for a bit.

I felt the same way, but 1 week after surgery i felt really good compared to 1 week post injury. It goes fast once you start PT.

If you can get desk duty, you'll be fine. Between the fact that my job is a desk job and I can do a fair bit of it remotely, I missed a grand total of 3 days of work for entire duration of my broken leg, and 2 of those were days I was having surgeries (been through 4 of them so far). Plus, that gives you some motivation to get up and go do some moving around. Bring a small pillow or two, prop your leg up on your desk (another chair is better than nothing but really not high enough) and work away. A wireless keyboard and mouse are very helpful ;)

Same situation here. I took about a week off ( i was barely conscious and basically drunk off pills, but i worked a little, mostly ON-CALL emergency type work during that time) Then i WFH'd for about 1-2 weeks. then by the 3rd week i was working in the office again and could sit at a desk without pain.

When i broke my knee, i worked at Home Depot at the service desk. I was off for 3-4 weeks on disability before i went back. It was rough because i had to keep my leg elevated every 30 minutes or so to keep the swelling(and thus pain) down.

im in the boat right now that once my foot gets lowered it immediate numbs and pain starts

its a bitch to go piss.... i dont like the tingly numbness shit feeling at all, could deal with the pain but the numbness tingly and warm feeling when lowering my leg just makes my brain think my foot is still foooooqued

and that starts litearlly the second my leg is lower then my heart :C

Are you taking ibuprofen in addition to the prescribed pain meds? You should verify this with your doctor, but i was prescribed 400-800mg of ibuprofen with each pain med for my knee, otherwise even a high dose of narcos couldn't stop the pain due to swelling, and i was allowed to take similar dosage of ibuprofen for my clavicle.

Swelling impacts and reduces healing, so it is very important to keep swelling to a minimum through periodic (every? 30 minutes) and ibuprofen (if doctor approves taking it)

Damn, so sorry to hear about all of this. :(

My broken ankle was definitely a bear at the beginning. :( Similar to you, I had three screws put in; I was able to do a shoe after the surgery instead of a cast, which helped, but I was basically off of the ankle for anything other than getting around with crutches, then a cane.

I was riding again in about a month - it was my right ankle, so I could skip the rear brake and not use that leg at all, and strap my cane to the subframe like House. It definitely had risks, but I weighed them against the importance for my mental state to get back on the bike. That helped, but it was a couple of months before I could start using it properly again, and I remember at one point looking down at my right leg, and seeing how visibly atrophied the muscle was compared to my left, and just breaking down crying on the living room floor. Find things to distract yourself - video games, movies, photography, something that makes you happy.

Ice helped so much with the pain in the beginning, along with elevating it at my desk every chance I could. It kept the inflammation and pain down, and let me get off of opioids quickly, and take ibuprofen intermittently instead until everything settled.

As mentioned above, physical therapy is critical. It's almost 10 years later, and aside from the scars, there's no sign I ever injured my ankle; I've run two marathons and some halves since then with no issues.

Once it's over, you can look back and see how quickly it went in the grand scheme of things - but in the moment, you're really in it.

Hey barf, got my cast off and staples removed from 1 side of the ankle.

Doc says foot looks fine, got plastic boot and still no weight bearing for another month..... i really want to start pt meow but oh well.

Pain is not as constant but definitely getting throbbing shooting pains periodically now since im not in a super tight cast. I still have full numbness everywhere so really hoping to start pt to get range of movement and feeling back. I still cant curl my toes or flex my ankle for more then a few cm if that.

Thanks barf

Go right ahead with that Bossmove!

Elevation can be key to alleviating swelling and associated pain.

Anybody says anything? just reply with “I had a no-fault shunt at 100mph on my bike, and I’m going to be just fine”.

And F their funny looks.

:rofl:rofl:rofl

I did it when i worked at home depot back in2008 and broke my knee. I worked customer service desk and i looked like a lazy MFer sitting with my leg up on the desk... but it had to be that way or i wouldn't have been able to work.

so had a few xrays today, fractures all healing and covering up real well according to doc, he expects only 1 more face to face visit with xrays.

Starting PT asap, but fml doc moved my foot so much and was like oh yea the xrays says you should have movement to HERE...... he touched my foot for like 1 min but gave it so much exercise my entire foot was on fire for rest of the day (still right now)

So docs orders, go ahead and start crutch walking using up to 50% of my weight, then in a few weeks, only use 1 crutch and weight bear more on the broken ankle, and I have been cleared to drive - if i can deal with it.

Range of motion in the ankle still feels about 50% up down and 25-33% side to side, super tightness occurs when exceeding them - no pain just awkward weird warm tightness happening (like numbness tingling and tightness)

I am off prescript pain meds and just over the counter stuff now, occasionally I get random shooting throbbing pains all around the foot from anywhere from 5 secs to 2 mins continuosly, foot is still extremely swollen.

But making progress, hopefully I can walk/run ride sooooooon!! Im tempted to take my grom out right now, dunno bout the tuono beast

congrats on the progress!

can you perform a single leg lateral hop? if not i would not ride yet. what happens if you stick your leg out to catch the grom? can you support it?

what about bicycle? seems like it would be good to promote motion / strengthening...also swimming or stationary bicycle may be good!

cant support myself just yet, i used the pallet scale at work today, i was able to put over 50lbs of force down on the broken ankle/foot

i was so surprised i kinda stumbled and had to catch myself lol

i dunno bout my healing, the very 1st doc @ chico told me I should be walking in 3 weeks - that my break was super simple 1 screw and boom on to full healing.....

Actual doc in san rafael who did my surgery, said the xrays didnt pickup all the damage and I actually fractured 3 different sides of the ankle and hence 3 various screws inserted, along with 2 toes that were just gonna be left in the cast to heal.

Its getting better day by day, I had to reschedule my PT this week cuz i got to excited and didnt realize i scheduled the PT without asking my gf lol first.

I kinda just wish my foot is not swollen and i have feeling in my big toe and 2nd toe.... but its getting less tingly day by day

Thanks again barf for providing these types of threads, just positive vibes all around! :thumbup
