I just feel I should throw a shout out to Bobby Fong for his 600 Super Sport Championship. :banana :thumbup :banana
After a hard crash in Pittsburg he took crutches to get to the grid for two rounds and today he limped to it. His win today gave him the C'ship with one race to go. Super stoked for Bobby. I felt the kid had something special in 2005 when I saw him at Buttonwillow.
“Who is this novice hauling ass?”
In ’06 Barf racing was young and my life was not quite consumed as it has become. After two fun years we ended up with a totally different level of race team in ‘06 with Bobby Fong and KFG Andy Carman. It also brought Jim Doyle who was guiding Bobby (Jim managed both Kenny Roberts and Randy Mamola). '06 brought some solid sponsors too. Fred's Place was still in the game and we added TICO Construction, Suomy, Leo Vince, Vesrah, Helimot and REPSOL. !! Cycle Finish was as well and provided awesome paint for the team bikes!!! Then we have VisionWells..... the video boys whom we connected with in '04.
After borrowing 10K from my BudMom I bought an R6 from SJ Yamaha to allow him to race on something competitive. Bobby delivered right away. A great group of guys gave me their time and more to race. So cool.
Special thank you to all that crewed for us and supported us. :thumbup
Bobby raced his first AMA PRO race at Laguna in ‘06 where he took a win this year. A promising start led to a blown motor. Thanks to some good people we rebuilt the motor and Bobby went on to win both AFM 600 classes and overall points. He also showed great promise at Sonoma (his second AMA Pro Race) too.
Anyway flash forward 13 years.
Bobby has given racing 100%. Total props for his dedication.
Watching him and rooting for him with friends that were there has been pretty damn cool. His COTA / Texas whoop ass in Superstock had Danny and I dancing!!
Latus Racing deserves props for supporting Bobby and being solid, good moto people and in the game for MotoAmerica in the early years. Total bummer they could not come up with a little support from a manufacturer. George Latus and his wife poured heart and soul and a lot of money into their effort. Sad not to see them on the grid this year.
Bobby landing with M4/Hammer Suzuki Team I knew he finally had what it takes to win a Championship, both a good bike and a great team. The year has been tough, but Bobby stayed solid to his competitive soul and did the deed.
Congrats Bobby. I bet you will have a contract for 2020.
All the best young man! :thumbup
I know Danny, Steve and I are really proud to see you being the Supersport Champ. I bet Pit ho is getting jiggity in heaven. He loved ya.
Congrats to the Ulrich Family as well. The dedication to the sport runs strong in their veins. ort
A long journey to the number 1 plate.
