BMW Track School At Thunderhill

I need advice. I have only been riding for a couple months. Only have about 400 miles riden, none since dropping my bike when I locked up the rear prior to a turn on 49...long story. I screwed up. Bike is in the shop being repaired.

I contacted a local club about finding local riders/mentors. The suggested that there is going to be a BMW Trackschool at Thunderhill in June. Requires the use of a streetlegal BMW, which I have. They say this would be great for me.

I hope to get the bike back this week and get back riding. By the time of the trackschool I hope to have at least 3-400 more mile riden, plus the miles I will have to ride to get to Thunderhill.

I wanted to see what you all thought.

Hey there,
It depends on what this track school is all about. If it's meant to show you how to go fast on that particular track, maybe not yet. If it's meant to teach and drill in to you basic skills, absolutely! By basic skills I am referring to the look through your turns with your head and not just your eyes, how to become comfortable with your bike in most situations, relaxing your arms on the bar, how to have your feet and so on. I'm sure you have those skills already in your head, but being able to do those types of drills over and over in a relatively safe environment is going to be most helpful :)

The school is set up on skill level novices are welcome. All bikes have to be street legal.

Both people I have contacted say it would be a great idea for me to go. They said bikes are rarely dropped. I asked about that because I will be a long way from home and don't want to pay to have it flatbeded.

I would personally hold off on it. Get another thousand miles of riding before taking the school. You'll get much better results taking the school once you're more experienced.

You can take the advanced rider course instead (the step above MSF). They used to have a 3,000 miles requirement before taking it, but now you can take it sooner. Look into it.
