I made 300 bucks a few years ago and decided to get out of it. My brother is quite invested. I was also using coin base.

I think that the fed res is allowing it to exist only until they can learn about the real world issues associated with e-money. Once someone else has done their homework, they will take away the competition. I have no doubt that the banking industry sees this as a threat.

Therefore...I like it.:laughing

Bump...anyone invested? I have a few BTC, that are now worth much more than when I bought in (despite big drop the other day).

Anyone want to take a guess at value, whether it rises, plummets, or grows at a reasonable rate (not 30% a month)?

I recently talked to someone that works at coinbase about the whole mining thing. Apparently it's really not worth doing on your own. You can buy into some sort of cooperative mining Farm.

Solo operation never makes profit considering electricity cost out of your own home. Also apparently a lot of the mining machines are obsolete by the time they reach the states

Yeah, my understanding (very limited) is the same. This means that supply should be somewhat tight, and thus, value should hold or rise?

I remember when me and my friends bought a bunch of bitcoins when they were like ~$2-3. Like about $400 worth..... Too bad we got rid of them at like $8.

At the time nobody knew it would blow up to what it is now and cryptocurrency was just some nerdy thing

How does a currency increase by multiples relative to other currencies?
Seems it happened so there must be a logical explanation. The question is are people 2 years from now going to look back and ask why didn't I load up in the summer of 2017.

Bitcoin is having a little internal struggle due to a possible fork of the coin on August 1st and that news is lifting litecoin up. I bought hundreds of Ethereum at $8 and sold recently at almost $400 so that I can "invest" into some smaller crypto currencies that have promise since even Ethereum will slow down in price soon. Making good money off of Bitcoin is still possible but it requires a huge initial investment. If you only want to put in a few grand then look into some of the smaller up and coming cryptocurrencies.

A lot of the increases are speculative since only a few coins are used to purchase things which is mostly done on the darknet. Ethereum isn't exactly a currency but took the number two spot because a lot of large corporations have joined the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance such as Microsoft, J.P. Morgan, and Samsung. There are always people looking back and thinking about how rich they could be if they bought this or that coin when they first knew about it. A lot of people have a fear of missing out on the next Bitcoin which is what sometimes pumps up some of these smaller cryptocurrencies that normally wouldn't increase in value. The goal is to find the right coin that will take off and I'm sure it can be done this summer.
