Alaska Highway?

How long do you guys recommend to ride the Alaska highway from Central California? Would like to go up the Western route and down the Cassier route. How many days do you think I should plan for. Would like a non rushed trip doing V-Strom not Goldwing comfortable days with rest/exploring days. Not interested in could be done in 2 days non stop. More interested in I did it in XX days, if I had it to do again I'd plan XX days. EDIT not planning Dalton Highway.

#2, if you could choose May/June or Aug/Sept which would you choose and why?
