Last night was the AFM banquet.

Always a good time seeing so many passionate moto folks and the others that love them and the sport. I had the pleasure of sitting with Deion Campbell and his family along with Wobbie and my buddy Danny. Both of these guys were involved when I was racing and became life long friends.

Great to see Berto, Barb, Ernie, Dave M., Vic, Kenny, a couple Chris's, Marc E. and more.

Cool to watch the racers who ended up on the podium getting a little public love for a job well done. Congrats to all. :port

In the bar before the event started I was talking with Vic and Chris V. about how the Banquet has changed over the years and recalled the Fozz (old AFM announcer and friend) sucking down a lot of tequila shots while trying to do his thing.. :laughing I think it became a test as racer after racer brought him a shot... that was a long night.

Chris said that was the night that the big drunk guy got up and started blathering about Bobby Fong and they had to almost force him to stop. I was :wow -- that was Pit Ho :facepalm :laughing Danny and I were there that night and Pit Ho was part of the barfRACING team and we both were OMG don't do it Mark!!! He did... and we could not stop him. Hard to stop a 6'-5" 285 pound determined and proud man when he has had a few. Miss ya man. :rose

Anyway one of the changes I mentioned was how much the AFM celebrates it Novices now vs then and before. Such a good call by the Board to do that. Seeing all the folks engaged in cheering for the novice champs really shows me that makes a difference in the AFM being more than just a club. It really is a family in ways. Some may be distant cousins and others are brothers and sisters. Meeting Jordan Edginton and his Dad was super cool and man you could see the passion and pride in Dad's eyes and the story of them being on the track together the first time Jordan passed Dad had them both beaming. I was enjoying seeing others enjoy something I really do love was so cool.

A great vid and pics from OXYmoron got the juices going and then Go Go provided a video that touched my soul. No race action, just people. Moto people. :thumbup

Congrats to the AFM top 10.

#7 Marc Edwards
#8 Berto Wooldridge
#9 Fabian Fernandez
#10 Mark Fitzsimmmons

And all the class champs too. :port
.. and all the racers that had something inside bring them to the racing and live a little better. The AFM has provided that for generations.

A tip of the hat to all the turn workers and support staff that have kept it going for over six decades.

--A couple of pics.

I always dig Berto's awesome Captain America bike. It is beautiful and when you get close can tell it has had been ridden hard. :cool AFM F40 Champ! :thumbup

Did you bolt after the last award? I'm pretty sure that was you I saw near the exit towards the end. You or your doppelganger positioned yourself there with about 3 classes to go. Was planning to introduce myself but gave up the thought when I saw the person I thought was you poised for an immediate exit.

Is there a link available for the other video that was more of a highlight reel?

No dancing for me either. :laughing Older than you but I wasn't lined up to escape like I was at a Raider game in the last 2 minutes where the ending didn't look promising in the George Blanda/ Darrel Lamonica years. :rofl

Sorry we didn't meet. In case I haven't previously expressed this... thanks for commissioning the "Nicky" painting with Diego. A full sized print is prominently displayed in my living room. :) And thanks for your support of the AFM! :thumbup

It took @Smash Allen, Jesse Carter, Cory Call and my bud the late Mike Kauzlarich to get me racing again after 32 years. :afm199

As a novice racer, it was pretty cool to get some love up there!

It's awesome to see how much camaraderie there is in the AFM at all times, (even during races). The human component of the track time is what motivated me to get back on 2 wheels after losing my arm and, briefly, my life. It's a nice change for me to get to talk about riding with people that are supportive (if not inspired) of it instead of just thinking I'm crazy.

Having recently lost foot/leg, finally I find the device that will keep me riding. :thumbup

When the dancing starts, the gray hairs swarm the exits. We have to fight past each other. :laughing

Great to see you Bud and say Hi, always love the chance to catch up with folks during the long (boring) winter "break" - and can't wait for this next season to finally get rolling!

Times have changed. The AFM gave out 200 awards plus or minus a few Saturday night. Back in the day you swam with the big fish and turned up the throttle for any recognition. No novice love. Without comment, pics of the '85 awards banquet program "North." Note, National award winners were state winners. :laughing

PS: @budman at one point R1minesroadripper (not sure if username is correct. It's what I remember) requested old AFM results be posted. I have some results from back in the day that show: Kevin Schwantz, Malcolm Smith, Randy Mamola, Doug Polen and others as AFM racers. He got no love. :rolleyes If there is an appropriate thread, point me to it or create it. I'd be happy to scan and post what I have. :)

That would be very cool. AFM history in the best of barf would be a good spot.

‘85 was my first year. 1/2 MX and 1/2 AFM.
I have some race results from that year. My 19th at the year ender and a sub 2 min lap had be jumping for joy.

The next year I saw Jepson’s tail for a bit without being lapped. :teeth

Guest speaker Dick Mann!! How cool!

WFO439: Rich was a #8? Coolio...I share something with him now!

Bud, awesome pics! I had a great time hanging with you and Monica enjoyed seeing you again! My favorite part of the pics? The one where you can still see the sticker on the front tire AFTER two races...

JZ and Corey give me shit about that all-the-time.

It was great to see you Budman! It was a great night and those videos just underscored why that was. So much passion and support for the sport we love. Looking forward to 2019.
Thanks for supporting the whole riding community!
