AFM Banquet - bring popcorn

I've wanted to do this for years. Always failed, which is bad, but you know what's worse than failing even? Not trying. Which I did. Year after year after year.

I wish I could say I made a promise to myself that this year I would get it done. And that I stood up like a man, made good on my promise and got it done. But I forgot to make the promise in the first place which kind of blew my feel-good opportunity.

I made a film, for you, about racing, and racers, and people who make it happen - specifically in the AFM, but generally anywhere. We're all the same after all. As different as we are.

Relax it's only ten minutes long so if you hate it, eat the salad. But I bet you won't hate it. In fact I think you might enjoy it. Some pretty cool people are in it. In fact that's all that's in it. People. My favorite part of racing. ...and I got to feed a newborn calf while filming it. That's a win right there.

I saved money for weeks some years ago, to do the Race of Champions at Daytona. I built my ZX7R just right, I painted it perfect, I took off work, loaded my crap and drove all day and night. I crashed in the International Horseshoe on my outlap for practice 1, hurt my wrist and broke the weekend in two. For those of you who have not raced Daytona, the International Horseshoe (on your outlap) is basically turn 1.

So, two weeks of work for 9.2 seconds of Daytona.

Here is to hoping that these last two weeks yield more than those did.

See you there,

I prefer setting the bar extremely low. Like, just off the floor. This way just about anything other than being thrown out is a success

That video was kick ass - I want to share it with my track whore buds... is it / will it be featured on your blog?

Common it’s been almost 12 hours since it featured don’t make me wait!!! :rofl :thumbup

The videos presented at the banquet were top notch - in fact the entire night was tops.

This was my first banquet after my first year racing. Let’s just say my schedule is being shuffled to accommodate more AFM rounds and less trackdays :teeth

This is great, I am very happy that people enjoyed it. Kenny Norman watched it alongside his son Kyle, both of them perched on my right and left knee - like children at the park. Kenny cried like the woman we all love him for being. Kyle is obviously the man of the house, he kept a straight face throughout. Tracy was so nervous that what she said would ruin the film. Personally I think she made the film. I sent it to Dave The Butcher, he loved it too. Even shyly admitted to shedding a tear. Then he shared with me old pics of the days before "the f'ing clicks" - when he raced a Honda Hurricane. Funny, while he was racing Hurricanes on the west coast I was racing Hurricanes on the east coast.

Please, I made this with us and for us, lit by the flickering hope that it might inspire the racers in all of us to do what comes most natural to us. To race. So share it wherever you like. Just make sure you mention Kenny crying.

If you want to embed it on your site just click the paper airplane in the upper right corner of the frame when the film is paused. All embed options are viewable in a pop-up window that you will see after clicking that button.

Completely strikes a chord for those with the passion for riding and racing. Thanks for creating it and sharing with us. :applause

I may have to print shirts - the f’ing clicks or I shine behind the wall, can’t decide yet

Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. It makes little sense what we do, why, or for how long. Until one day you realize it makes all the sense.

Really, really good video. I don't know if it's even possible to explain racing to people who don't, or never would, do it. But anyone who races or has raced understands. Those clips capture it very well. Way to go, GoGo !

So glad people enjoyed it. Makes it all worthwhile. Quite a feeling putting your all into something then sitting among a crowd focused on it. Wanted to hide and cheer simultaneously
