A few comments on Who Let the Smoke Out... please read!

Last week I was reading the comments left by jpoppa on MikeGyver's 916 street fighter thread. Mike started an awesome thread detailing his Ducati 916 project... then nothing. I happen to know Mike from another forum (CustomFighters) and he is very active there and has created build threads for several of his Ducati projects. He's an awesome builder.

Now I can't speak directly for Mike, but what I suspect is that he may have lost interest in posting to BARF for lack of engagement. We builders spend a lot of time on our projects... then spend even more time to photograph and post thoughtful updates to the forum. We enjoy doing this even though it can be very time consuming. We don't ask for anything in return except that you enjoy reading the posts.

So here's a suggestion... if you enjoy our posts consider being more engaged. This will help us to stay motivated to keep the updates coming. If you read a post that you particularity like let us know. I can see the number of views (which is great) but getting a personal reply is much better. Even better than a simple comment is when you ask questions. I don't have all of the answers even on my own projects. At times I may specifically ask for feedback. This level of engagement is what we really like and keeps us coming back.

Anyway, I'm grateful to the admins for creating this sub-from as a place to showcase our moto projects:thumbup

PS- if you know of someone with a cool project (like KPKE) please encourage them to start a build thread:party

I agree that engagement makes a difference. :port

Even if it is just saying that looks cool.
We are consumed by lurkers and more actual posting would benefit the community a lot.

Frame Maker, I am in awe of your ability to manufacture an entire motorcycle. So amazed, I usually have nothing I consider of value to add. However, in the future, I will let you know it is appreciated. Thankyou for you effort to show us your work! :wow

I guess I find it odd that many of these build threads get very few comments, yet I could go under the general sub-forum and ask what type of oil to use in my SV650 and I'd have 20 replies by the end of the day...:dunno

Anyway, thank you Budman for the reply. Much appreciated:thumbup

It's cause I'm a lazy m'fkr and I have too many projects going at once! Search hard enough in the KS and you'll see I started a pool slide project I have yet to finish too (soon though :laughing ).

I'll finish the Ducati someday.

Everyone loves your stuff Julian, but most just don't know the questions to ask or how to relate in a meaningful manner. Most just bolt farkles on their bikes, not make their own frames! :thumbup

Keep on keeping on! I'm watching!

Hah! look who's back ^^^ Hey Mike, good to see you again. So what is the current status with the 916 street fighter? I'd love to see some updates on this awesome project:thumbup

Like Budman said, I think engagement has been dropping on all moto forums over the years, I'm not sure why maybe it's FB or IG or? But I can speak for myself and probably a few others, I wholly appreciate all build threads and read every word and look at every picture, though I may not post more than a " :thumbup " example, I just read your why you choose the metal you choose and thought it was super interesting. So even though there may not be a ton of engagement, it's still appreciated and if nothing else you're documenting it for history.:thumbup

I am a huge fan of the historical aspects of this forum. Part of the reason our transition to new software is taking a while. I don't want to lose a thing!

I am a chatty Kathy on my side as far as documenting things myself. :laughing

I do enjoy going back to old threads at times, whether it is rallies, rides, racing, moto safety etc.

Nice post up there Julian. Hopefully it will encourage folks to get engaged.

Then there are those other people that need to put up build threads.

I am backlogged with stuff. A recent family pet (terminal) health crisis is not helping things. I will get there when I get caught up and can focus a little bit on this. I thought when I got old like this life was going to be simpler/easier. WTF

You know where I stand on this, Julian.
I will do what I can to keep the motivation for project posting moving in a forward direction as much as I can.:thumbup

Appreciate these build threads greatly.

Will I likely have actionable information to contribute?
Yeah, naw.

Usually, ... I don't critique Lancet or NASA papers either.

Ken, I'm sorry to hear about the medical issues with your little fur monster. I was not aware. I hope he is happy in his remaining time with you.

Thank you Julian. You two have a special hidden bond. As you were resting in the hospital, she rescued your motorcycle up on Mines Road.

Adding the ability to like posts would give this increased feedback Frame Maker and the person he mentioned who stopped posting seek, in a way that works with people who want to browse more than post.

I'm sure it was a conscious decision not to do this (maybe a decision not to switch forum software), but it seems to be time to decide the other way.

These posts tend to confuse me.
We already have the "Thumb up" on our menu :)thumbup)
What more do you need? This isn't Facebarf for good reasons.
