I am planning a trip this October up the CA and OR coast, over to Eugene, down through Cater Lake, and lastly through Lassen NP. This will be a Sat-Sat, 2-up trip. We want to sight see and enjoy the ride together.

Planning 128 then up to Brookings. Then through Coos bay, stopping at Sea Lion Caves, up to Salishan Resort before Eugene.

Any must see items (other than Avenue of the Giants) that we MUST do up the coast?

Thanks for any suggestions.

As far as the coast, visit Fern Canyon if you haven't. Either via 8 mile dirt road to Gold Bluffs Beach and a short walk, or a 5 mile hike from the Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park visitor's center.

Not a lot of dining choices north of Arcata, and sometime it's tempting to stop at Crescent City to eat, but I always seem to be disappointed when I do. I'm probably being unfair to Crescent City, but I'd rather push on to Bandon, or at least Brookings OR.

Since you're sight seeing, maybe take the McKenzie Pass Highway east from Eugene and stop at the observatory at the pass. You could head down the east side from there to reach Crater Lake--many sights to see in between. Or meander around awesome deserted roads of Eastern Oregon first.

Speaking of which, the State of Oregon publishes a free motorcycle map, with awesome roads highlighted. Butler Maps sells something similar.

Maybe take the Jet boat ride on the Rogue River at Grants Pass Ore.
Down near Lassen check out Burney Falls. Spectacular.
