35mph over the safe speed for eating?

It's been over 5 weeks and I still haven't received a courtesy notice. There's no record of the ticket when I search the court website under my name or the ticket number. Is this a normal delay or is there a chance the officer had a change of heart and didn't "file" the ticket? Gov offices are hard to reach by phone these days...should I keep waiting or do I need to robocall the court clerk?

Might have been covered, but I don’t want to reread the whole thread. What was the appearance date on the citation?

I didn't realize it would indicate the appearance date on the ticket. I thought that was scheduled as a follow up once ticket was filed and processed by court. But you're obviously right, there's a date on the ticket but the officer just wrote "B7" in the date field. Not sure what to make of that.

Not sure what to make of that either. Can you snap a pic of the appearance date/time? Sometimes we write in a hurry and the penmanship gets sloppy. Just block/blur out any personal/vehicle information if its visible.

It also might be worth a call to the local agency to ask. But you also run the risk of "reminding" them that the ticket was issued and they will try to find it or question the officer about it.

That looks to me like he put the Beat # and his name in the box instead of the Appearance Date/Time.

Can’t say I’ve never done that.... :laughing

I’d keep an eye on the court website or call the agency for clarification.

Thanks Nick, appreciate all your input. The lack of it appearing on the court website after 5 weeks gives me hope. I'll call the court tomorrow to see if I've got a bench warrant, a future court date, or no record of a ticket at all.

They may be processing cites at a slower rate due to COVID. It won’t result in a warrant. Only a potential license suspension for a Failure to Appear.

Keep checking the courts weekly. Once the New Year comes, if there’s no record of the citation in their system I’d say you’re in the clear.

It's called the eye of a sewing needle!

There's a Bible passage that says that it's easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the Kingdom of God. I always thought that was a silly metaphor.

Then someone pointed out that ropes used to be made of camel hair, and slang for rope was "camel."

Now makes sense!!!

The pre-recorded message on the court phone system said it takes 2-3 weeks (it's been over 5 weeks so far) for tickets to appear in their system. I spoke with the operator and she basically echoed your advice, keep checking back....although she said the issuing officer/agency has up to a year to actually process/submit the citation. She suggested that it could be under admin review at the local CHP office and it's just being help up on their end...

It takes the court 2-3 weeks once they receive the citation. It may take the agency an additional week or so to send the cite to the courts.

Riddle me this.
Let's see if this image upload works:

It says "BY" and "30 DAYS." I usually write "W/IN" and "60 DAYS" on mine. Odds are the courts are just behind. I get tickets back for correction 6 weeks after I wrote them when the court can't read my handwriting or they realize I wrote their birthday as that day or I forgot to check a box.

Good call, I totally see it now. Maybe you can decipher the rest of the ticket for me...can you make out the line just below the CVC? Something "while driving"?

Is that what you guys normally do? I always write a physical date in our county. Usually 60-90 days out.

We've been writing our cites 8 weeks out.

I think it says about what Nick wrote.

I usually go 3 months, just to give the driver time to save up and financially prepare in the rare event I write a mover.

Plus it helps sell the ticket when you explain it like that.

Merely Rhetorical
This is just a good reminder to read the ticket closely and ask the officer for clarification before signing. Usually I'm too impatient and just sign it to get out of there, because I sure ain't getting paid for that time.

They tell us to write a date within 60 days on a Wednesday. I learned I can write "W/IN 60 DAYS" and that saves me time pulling up a calendar.
