Does anyone have a .308 (M1A or otherwise) that shoots 147 grain bullets well?

I scoped my M1A with a Sadlak Airborne mount, Larue LT104 mount (which is too high and will be replaced), and a Vari-X III 3.5 x 10 x 40.

Last week I shot it for the first time with Austrian 147 grain milsurp and it was everywhere at 3:00 - stringing horizontally about 4" at 100 yds, off the bench. Brought the rifle home and made sure the scope mount paraphernalia was tight, which it was. I snugged up the Larue levers anyway.

Tonight I took some 168 grain PPU match ammo and two different types of 147 grain, the Austrian again, and some ZQI.

The 168 grain yielded a 6 shot group at 1.125", with a flyer that opened it up to 2.188". These were at 1:00, so i dialed the scope and shot a .562" 3 shot group, with two of the rounds touching.

Have I said yet that I am not a good shot?

Then I shot 15 rounds of the 147 grain ZQI. 5.125" - wow.

Obviously my M1A prefers the 168 grain rounds.

Oh for the days when I could sell this ammo to fellow Californians and put it behind me......

M1A owner here :wave

168 gr has always been my preferred round (for my 700 and M1A).

I forgot what I've been shooting but I think I usually run 180 gr and 150 gr. but I only use iron sights on mine.

The 700, with the 168 shot the best (hand loaded rounds; zeroed at 100); the rest of the 150 gr were just range ammo to warm up the barrel :p
