And David Hobbs, Steve Matchett and Will Buxton...those guys wove good stories. The current world feed announcers are mostly chatter.

David Hobbs and Steve Matchett knew their stuff, thoroughly.

IMHO they were the most knowledgeable team of racing announcers for any motorsport broadcast as a team. They also didn't try to artificially generate excitement through mindless elevation of volume and velocity in their voices like some of the 'color' commentators who are so annoying.

I miss Bob Varsha as much as the sound of the V 10's....
And Sam Posey. They had a very Walter Cronkite matter of factness to their delivery.

I don't know what/how Varsha is doing but he was diagnosed with prostate cancer last year.

You can't fake a dynamic and those guys had it. The opposing points of view form driver and mechanic, the different eras of racing, and just Hobbo being Hobbo.

Man, I haven't really been able to watch for a couple of years. Between the dominance of AMG, and Screamy McGhee doing commentary, I've tuned out.

Any suggestions other than trying to watch on MUTE? Looking forward to Alonso's return, Ricc at McLaren, etc.

Here's a photo of Romain Grosjean I took at yesterday's Indy Car practice at Laguna Seca:

Sorry Mr. Dice, hopefully you can see it now. I originally tried to link to a Google Photos image, but apparently it didn't like it. So switched to PostImage.

I can! :thumbup

Great shot... was it fairly casual out there? The tests I have stumbled into everyone around the track was pretty chill, but not yet for I-car....

Thanks! It was extremely casual, with very few people around. Got in on a $5 day use pass. No access to the paddock/pits, no vendors (of course), and some of the bridges across the track were closed. Beautiful weather and 8 cars out on the track. Some were hammering away all day...9 to 5. Oh yeah, another former F1 driver was in the mix, Montoya.

Cool.

Montoya's son is moving up the ladder to F1...

Over the last few winters I'd stop by the souvenir store to pick up past event t-shirts on clearance... :laughing
