Family friend was a full time mechanic for 15 years at a maintenance company. He was recently asked to turn in company property and notified that "there are changes to the company." Was not explicitly fired or laid off, but was told that he'd receive 3 weeks wages and that they would see if...

    Plumbing sticker shock

$9800 to repair a 5 ft section of sewer line. Problem is they have to cut into a 3 ft thick foundation. It's an old house and the foundation is settling and is pushing down on the line, making a belly in the line. Fack. Going to get some other estimates; this price seems steep. Any experiences?

    Mongo Smash! (Cutting bolts)

Moved a safe, and the bolts are sticking out of the concrete. Sticking up about 1” and they look to be 1/4” to 3/8” diameter bolts. I want to cut them down to the level of the concrete so no one trips. What’s the best way to do this? I don’t have an angle grinder or huge bolt cutters. I do...

    Mattress advice

Shopping for the third time in as many years for a new mattress. Had a Serta iComfort that developed a severe hump in the middle after only two years. Replaced that with a Tempurpedic that came out of the box with a slope, and we are now returning it. Looking for a firm mattress that comes flat...

Had a baby girl and being discharged from hospital today. We didn’t know the gender until she was delivered and wasn’t ready with a name. We’ve narrowed it down to Edith or Marlow.
