Need Lucas Valley road and area suggestions

Finally getting a chance to get out on the bike with the wife, and thought about taking 101 to Lucas Valley road to Olema, then back on Sir Francis Drake. Just going to be an easy relaxing ride, avoiding the hot area in the central valley. Anything to look out for? Fog is my biggest concern...

    Suison Valley/121/128 conditions

:teethThought this might be the best place to ask what kind of road conditions that area would have this time of year. Never been up that way and not sure what to expect as far as water on the road, run-off and dirt washed on the road. Thought if I got a few free hours and the rain held off I...

    Leesville Road

Recently saw a few pics of this road and thought I'd give it a shot. Not very exciting getting up to Williams, but really enjoyed the open, uncluttered feel of 505 and 5 in the morning. Took the exit through Williams and onto 20, but missed the exit for Leesville. Started enjoying 20 so much I...

    Carson Pass is Beautiful!

My brother in law and I went from Sonora up 49 to Jackson, to 88, then Luther Pass to 50 and back home. Couldn't have picked a better weekend! Sun was out, weather was good, light traffic and almost zero enforcement! Saw only 2 CHP's the whole trip and those were on 580 and 50. Not a lot of...

    quick little ride

My brother in law and I took a quick little ride a few weeks ago in an area we often pass through, but rarely stayed in. It was also the first real ride on my Triumph other than trips to work and stuff. We took my least favorite route through Tracy and manteca then took Obyrnes Ferry road...

    am I a retard?

Go ahead and answer honestly. I want to ride and see the Bonneville Salt flats. One of those things I really want to see and experience, but figured if I did, I would take the bike. No solid plans yet (but I do make impulsive decisions once in a while :teeth). No overnight plans, there and...

Need alternate route to hetch hetchy

I would really like to take a ride out to Hetch Hetchy reservoir, but I am sooooo burned out on the route out there through Tracy and Manteca, Oakdale etc. from Newark. Any suggestions to getting there using a different route and still be day trip? Don't really care if it's slab,scenic...

    Inspired by the Flying-Hun

After reading of the trip he and his wife took, my wife and I were inspired to take off up the coast. The only requirements she had were to see some redwoods and the coast, so that we did. We only had a day to do this, so we made the most of it leaving around 10 after the kids were dropped off...

    So here's my idea....

Thinking of riding north of Cloverdale on 101, then heading over to Highland Springs Reservoir via old toll road (south of 175) Don't have a dual sport, but been on hard packed dirt and gravel roads before and really had a blast! Just trying to change up the riding I do a bit without getting to...

    road trip planner with weather

Here's a neat little tool I found http://www.wunderground.com/roadtrip/ I use this weather site to check weather history so I know what to expect at specific times of year and locations. Just recently ran across the trip planner with weather...could come in handy

    google vs yahoo maps

Anybody have any experience as which one is more accurate? Both gave me identical routes from Newark to Sandy,Utah. Yahoo says 767.9 miles, 11 hours and 3 minutes. Google says 769 miles, 12 hours 25 minutes. Just thought it strange for there to be that big a difference between drive times

So I didn't make it to Iowa hill, but....

I still had fun. I didn't write down the exit I needed to take to get to Iowa Hill road, so I figured I just head towards Reno to see the snow. Still enjoyed it plenty, temps in the low 40's, clear and dry roads and light traffic..perfect!!

    Iowa Hill

If the weather holds out and doesn't get too bad, I may head out and explore Iowa Hill out of Colfax on Sunday. Definetly not a fast paced road from what I have heard, but sounds fun. Anyone been there before?

starting the new year off the right way

Been so long since I went for a ride I had to go somewhere. Didn't want to deal with ski traffic and weather in the mountains, so I headed to the coast. Down 101 to Atascadero then over to Morro Bay and on home up the coast. Really cold and foggy coming down 101..37 in Bradley, but sunny and...

    Devil's Postpile trip

So I left Saturday morning at 5:00am headed for the Devil’s Postpile. It was raining and plenty of thunder and lighting….not the last I would see of that. The usual boring ride out to Oakdale except for all the storms, but once I got there I had the storms to my back. Made a nice casual ride on...

    annual long ride

Ok, first off, glad I spelled annual correctly:laughing Over the last few years I have made a little tradition of taking a long ride at the end of summer before the time changes. Did iron butt one year, highways 120 and 108 loop another, and a trip to Lassen another. Mileage is not important...

Places to stay in/near Death Valley

Anybody have any suggestions on where to stay the night for an overnight trip to Death Valley? Seems to be fairly limited to a few places, and I don't know one from the other. My first thought is Beatty, Nevada, but need to research that some more.
