Morning commute ended in a motorcycle fire

Well this was not how I planned to start my day. I left for work and while idling for a few seconds waiting for the light to change to get on the freeway, I noticed that there was a small amount of smoke coming up between my legs. I quickly pulled into the parking lot next to a McDonalds. A...

Ride Apart - Cracker Jack Journalism

When I read a trash article I usually don't bother to call it out, but I scratched the surface on this one and just had to laugh. Ride Apart published an article titled DOT Helmet Failure Rate Increases To 43 Percent. A pretty concerning title isn't it? The article ends with this final...

Let's sing the praises of driver assistance and Teslas

Since buying a home in August, my commute has changed which means a lot more lane sharing then in the past on multiple routes which has really prompted to me to notice how much better drivers are getting about lane sharing, particularly newer vehicles with driver assistance. The Tesla is...

*HANDLED* Any BARF Angels around Broken Down? at Napa DMV

If any BARF angels are out there I am broken down in the Napa DMV parking lot. Bike rode fine here but now the engine light and oil light ate on and won’t go away. So the bike won’t start. Please PM if you can help out with a tow back to SF. Thank you.

    Don't Believe the AI Hype!

Am I the only one that has noticed just how unpredictable and slow the Ford Focus AI cars are in SF? I have had the displeasure of being behind one 2 or 3 times and each time the damn thing was unpredictable, slow and sloppy. Big data better get better quick because these barely deserve to be...

What is Wrong with This Picture?

Will AI driver assists really save us from ourselves? (Source Subaru Ireland's Eye Sight web page) I saw this on the comments section of an article on Inattentive Blindness on the Common Thread. A quick Google search confirmed, yup this really is live on the Subaru's website. I don't know...

Any else have the iPhone fail to block calls while riding?

I am curious if I am alone on this one. I have noticed that my iPhone automatically blocks calls when I drive, no matter the speed but I have had it allow calls while riding around San Francisco (not stopped either). Has this happened to anyone else?

Anyone have experience with white leather for daily use?

Summer is coming. In the past, I didn't care much because I worked and played on the cost but I am commuting to Pleasanton now. I am thinking of picking a second white leather jacket for the summer (Dianese D1 Racing Jacket). I do wear a Kriega R20 with gym clothes, lunch and a laptop. My...

PSA: Highway 1 down from Mill Valley to Stinson Beach

I apologize if this has been posted already but Highway 1 is closed at the top of the hill at the intersection with Panoramic Hwy. There is also a pretty good intersection flood on Shoreline coming off 101. Looked like I might need paddles for a minute.:teeth P.S. The title should have been...

    Riding with Traction Control

I have not ridden a bike with traction control but it will likely be a feature on my next ride. I was surprised by the riding technique advice in this article on Sport Rider (Riding With Traction Control) and was wondering if their take matches what others with experience with these systems do...

Tech ?: Material Abrasion Resistance Resources?

I am hoping with all of our technical members and people with engineers for fathers that someone might know of a good technical reference to compare abrasion resistance of textile materials. The two materials I specifically want to compare are: 500 Denier Mil-spec Cordura® GORE-TEX® PWR|shell...

Even Motorcyclist Magazine Staffers are Bicycle Lane Evading Squids?

I was watching this video of Zack and Ari from Motorcyclist Magazine riding scooters in San Francisco and at 1:16 we see one of the riders using the dedicated bicycle lane to pass cars on Embarcadero for what looks to be about a city block. Which of course made me flashback to the recent...

Am I Crazy for Considering Buying an Used Stator?

So after being rescued by BARF Roadside Angel Boney, I had SF Moto look at my bike. I purchased a new battery and brought it in and they confirmed what I suspected that the charging system is not working. Their assessment was that the stator needed to be replaced and possibly the regulator...
