How to start commuting on 880?

So I'm sick of being stuck in my cage while all the bikes get to split down 880 to work. I wanna do that too! So here's my experience level... I've put about 500 miles on the bike so far, mostly all city streets, aside from one time at night when I rode for 2 exits along 880 north at 80mph...

    Change Jobs?

So, I've been employed at a highly successful digital agency in San Jose for 15 months now. I love the agency and the people I work with. HOWEVER, I've been offered another job from a company in SF that I've been doing freelance work for. Current Job Salary: 70k with about 5% raises every year...

Cheating the HOV lane on 680?

So, I have a FastTrak. Can't I just keep it in a mylar bag so it won't get charged, then if I get pulled over, just take it out and tell the cop that it properly charged me? This HOV lane is so stupid. Pay $2.25 to save a few minutes on my commute over 7 miles? SURE :P

    How to accelerate quick?

Hey Guys, Sorry if this is a newb/stupid question... Riding around the city, I sometimes need to gun it get through a yellow light. Having a 500cc, my bike isn't super fast and I'm wondering how I can accelerate faster. Can I shift down a gear to accelerate faster through a light? What's the...

    First time commuting

So, I finally decided to try riding to work. I'm currently working over at Cisco in Milpitas, and I live in the Hayward hills, so about 24 miles. Normally, I'll take the cage down Mission, then take 680 over to Landess, pass Great Mall, then go to work. It takes me about 45 minutes normally...

Good twistie practice for a newb?

Hey folks, so I've got about 200 miles under me now. Still very much a newb, but feelin' more confident. I ride all around the city whenever I can, and when it's not too hot. I'm good on shifting through the gears, stopping at red lights, all that city stuff, but straight roads with a lot of...

    Using earbuds as earplugs?

Hey folks, maybe if I ask here I won't get razzed as much, but I have some Phillips earbuds, the kind that fill up your ear and basically kinda act like an earplug. Could I safely use that as an earplug on the freeway, or should I just get some regular earplugs?

Riding is my new drug :)

So, i've only had my bike 6 days, but I am in love. Before, when I had a bad/stressful day, I'd pick up a 6 pack and go home and drink 3-4 beers. Now I just go home and ride for a while. Makes me feel better, gives me a tiny bit of exercise, and is way less calories. Way more satisfying :)...

    Parking your bike outside?

Is it safe? I'm looking to rent a new place and wondering if i need a garage or otherwise secure place to store the bike. Can I just leave it outside, perhaps covered? Thoughts on this? Thanks.

What first on my new bike?

Sorry if this sounds like a stupid newb question, but I have this 2006 GS500 now, and I wanna do all the necessary maintenance on it. I also wanna get some light modulators so that my headlight blinks and I believe there is one for the brake light that blinks when u first brake. Basically trying...

    I finally bought a bike :P

So, no more "is this bike good?" threads. I found a black/gray 2006 Suzuki GS500F with about 14k miles for $2400 on CL. The rear tire is needing to be replaced soon, and the brakes need servicing, but overall it's in really nice condition. I rode it around a bit within my limited ability and...
