Sunday THill crash, entrance of 5A, Session 2, ZoomZoom

I dropped my orange/black CBR at the entrance of 5A this past Sunday. If anyone has a video, I'd appreciate a link so that I can see what happened. I already know it was self-inflicted :facepalm ... trying to figure out exactly how. Props to ZoomZoom and Trackmaster for a well-run day...

    Quickshifter technique

I picked up a 2008 CBR1000RR with a Bazzaz quickshifter for trackdays this year. The quickshifter is set with the Bazzaz default 80ms, 70ms, ..., 40ms cut times for upshifts into second through sixth. Any throttle techniques or other tips for using this thing? Thanks.

Top-out springs and men fixing stuff

Maybe a little OT for the BARF Garage ... I recently picked up a bike with an Ohlins 30mm fork kit, which has long top-out springs. I've been reading up on long top-out springs, since the old rules-of-thumb for setting preload and sag don't completely apply. Found the post below on an Aussie...

    Fork Spring Rate

How do you calculate the proper fork spring rate? I tried the following. 291 kg (bike+rider, same as 440 lb bike + 200 lb rider) / 2 (for 50/50 front/back weight ratio on wheels) / 2 (for two fork springs) / 60 mm (30 mm target sag + 30 mm preload, including effects of internal spacers) * 0.91...

    Paris Parking

In Paris for work and ran across this scene in St. Germain this morning; be careful where you park your bike. This row of scooters was firebombed overnight. No one seemed to have any details as to why.

Power Commander on 05 GSX-R 750: What to Expect

I'm thinking of off-season projects for my trackbike, an 05 GSX-R 750 with stock engine and exhaust. One possibility is a Power Commander. The installation seems easy enough, but, since the box runs a few hundred dollars and dyno testing would be another few hundred, I thought I'd do a quick...

Cycle Gear won't mount used tires

Just took my wheels down to Redwood City Cycle Gear to have my medium compound tires mounted ... and the store manager told me that Cycle Gear corporate policy now prohibits them from mounting used DOT tires (although they can still mount used dirtbike tires and slicks on a case-by-case basis)...

    Adjusting Ohlins Shock

I have an Ohlins shock with a hydraulic preload adjuster. At present, I need to turn the preload adjuster almost all the way in to get the proper preload (i.e., correct sag). I'd like to have the preload adjuster mid-way through its adjustment range for the same preload. My shock looks like...

    Props to QuikShade

If you use a QuikShade canopy for trackdays, you've probably noticed that after a year or so the end caps on the scissors bars at the top of the frame crack. As a result, the scissors bars sway horizontally, which can lead to the frame collapsing when the wind picks up. If you call QuikShade...

    ECU Repair: Beware of autoecu.com

The ECU on my 98 Triumph Sprint failed last fall. Since a new one was $800 (ouch) and used ones were going for $350 on eBay, I figured I'd try to get my old one rebuilt. Based on a recommendation on another bboard, I sent it to autoecu.com in Tennessee. There are probably capable and honest...
