See you in Hawthorne ...

The streets of San Francisco at 5 am, 9/13/16 ... :ride

I'm loaded up and the bike is at work, hoping to leave today
at 2:30 pm for the BARF Hawthorne Rally ... always wanted
to make this BARF rally and it looks like this may be the year ...
we'll see ... :laughing

Here is a link (ride over, link removed ... :() to my SPOT tracker, there should be something
to see when I turn the device on later today, if we have
it set up
right ... :nchantr

I have a vague plan to head up to Eagle Meadows tonight,
if I can get there before the sun sets today at around 7:15 pm ...
otherwise I may stop at the
Red Hills Area of Critical Environmental Concern ... then on to
see how far up Mt. Patterson I can get and then maybe over to
the East Walker River hot spring, and then on to Hawthorne on
Friday ... I'd like to explore a bit around Mt. Grant, north of
Lucky Boy Pass, looks like
some roads to the top of the mountains on the west side of
Walker Lake ...

Anyway, that's the plan ... :rolleyes

see you around
the campfire, :party

Dammit John, here you go again without me!

Have fun, I'll be looking for somewhere to go at the end of October as long as the weather holds. I'll be asking you for some ideas.

See you up there hopefully John - bike went into shop today and it looks like it's something in the headlight area cabling that's getting pinched when handlebars are turning. I expect it back tonight or tomorrow.

Have Fun John.

I'll be at work for most of the weekend, living vicariously through your SPOT tracks, which at the time I post this, put you pretty much at your destination tonight.

Ride like the wind! :party

Hey boney,

Sorry about work, and nice to have

I've been riding like the wind,
mostly over the handlebars ... :laughing

I saw that your track went out and back on a road that didn't go through. Thought there must have been something like a hot spring out there.

Yes, although I think I went out-and-back at each campsite ...
but you are right about the road to the hot spring not going
through anywhere ... it's a fairly steep canyon there ...
I'll say more about trying to ride up and out from the hot
spring on Friday morning ... :laughing

So, I left South-of-Market at 2:30 pm and just caught the
sunset near the Bennett Juniper four-and-a-half hours
later ... this is a view to the east ... you can see a bit
of the snow that made me decide to skip Mt Patterson ...
I was afraid there'd be ice and snow up at 11,600 feet and
I need basically perfect conditions to get up there on the
loaded KLR ... ice = "not perfect" ... :laughing

... visited the little cigar-tin day-of-the-dead style memorials to
my younger brother and sister, both taken by cancer in the last
few years ... their memorials are set up so people finding them can leave a
note if they want, but no one seems to have found them since I last
visited a year ago ...

I'll try to post a google maps satellite pic of this campsite near
the Bennett Juniper, it's a pretty nice spot to watch the sunset ... :party

Great thread for the dual sport crowd to consider a barf rally. Pretty much every destination we go to has a dirt option. So glad you made it and enjoyed it and found a compadre in Gurkha.

Great photos!!

Thanks budman! :ride

I've based my last two dual-sport
trips around BARF rallies ... beautiful areas to ride, the hotel
room/shower is welcome after 3 days
of camping and the motorcycle fellowship is
priceless!

Here's a google pic of my
camp sight on Tuesday ...

Heading east you take the Eagle Meadow
right turn off Hwy 108 and after a couple
of right hand turns and a couple of watercrossings
and riding beyond the Eagle Meadows horse camp a few miles
you get to the Bennett Juniper on your left,
which is the loop with the tent in it ...

I ride past that and camp at the trees
at the top of the pic ... :ride
