Corona Virus are you ready?

I am OK for the masks because of what we do we had a case. I did share some with our local market but still ok. I have been reusing my mask. I heard UV Light will disinfect. Not positive if that is true.

I have about 100 disposable shower curtains and a plastic welder. I was thinking of making gowns for folks. There's an amazing OpenSource community in the Bay area.

I've also read there are some filtering fabrics that offer near N-95 protection, masks are being produced with these. The Hepa filters off high end vacuum cleaners also afford more protection than just cloth.

Good luck finding what you need Boney we eed to keep you alive.

I've prototyped a PPE gown out of visqueen and duct tape. It's surprisingly effective (and hot!) It can be made in about 5 minutes. There is no shortage of those supplies yet, and they can be made on an as needed basis at each work location and cleaned until the duct tape fails.

But a plastic welder? That's a cool tool... So many things that can be done with that! :thumbup Most local hospitals have someone organizing the intake of donations. As do the cities and counties.

How do you know?

Maybe Beanzy did the roundabout Covid 19 test.

Asked friend or relative "Do you know anyone who has Covid 19?" To which friend or relative replied "No." To which Beanzy replies, "Cool cause you know me."

Full credit to Mitch Hedberg. Still miss that guy.

Exciting to hear that the serological test from Stanford is hours away from federal approval (receiving emergency use authorization from the FDA). It is a blood test for antibodies, will be used on Californians in the coming week ...

A patient would need to test positive for immunity and negative for the virus itself to safely return to work.

Question For Dr SLO

With the new antibody test coming to determine ones exposure / immunity, I have a few questions.
1. Can one be naturally immune even though one was never exposed ?
(I know with HIV they found that 22 African prostitutes carried full natural
Immunity against AIDS ; Is this possible with SARS / COVID viruses as well ?)
2. Will they use blood of those immune to help others as a “natural vaccine ?”
3. If I give blood now , will they run this immunity test or test at all before draw? If not, is the blood good if one has COVID 19 or is it solely isolated in the respiratory system?
4. How does Hydroxychloroquine potentially work to combat or lessen this virus ?
Does it have to be “loaded “ in ones system prior to exposure like in Lupus patients or can it be used once exposed ? And for how long ?
Finally , 5. are all Quinolines potentially of benefit or effective? ( Such as Mefloquine ?)

I was just browsing WeChat and a expat was flying back to Shanghai where she lives from Thailand. She said that they tested her for Covid19 and got the results by text one hour later. They arranged free DiDi to her home- Chinese Uber, so that she would not have any contact with anyone before receiving a negative test. She also said that the staff was friendly.

Anyone remember 1 hr photo? I am skeptical of China's security, so perhaps it's partly an act.

Lol.

Good one. And true.

I have several friends in their 80s with whom I have visited recently, including one eith diabetes. If they came down with Covid-19, you bet they'd let me know ASAP.

I believe innate immunity to HIV is related to a CCR-5 receptor on lymphocytes. A mutation keeps the virus from entering the cell and cause infection. It's a resistance to infection confined to the patients own lymphocytes.
It's not really activating any part of the immune system, so there is no immunity conferred by transfusion. HIV and CV have VERY different replicative strategies, the same type of mutation wouldn't work for CV.

They won't use "immune blood" as a "natural vaccine". They have used convalescent plasma, and high doses of gamma globulin to treat active infections, with some encouraging results.

No, they will NOT run a CV antibody test with a blood donation. They won't. They won't test you for CV infection either. They will exclude you for respiratory symptoms, maybe check a temp.

I don't know of any formal trials of prophylactic plaquenil, though surely somebody is trying it. There's no data, and and the study would take more time and resources. The drug can be toxic though, not such a good idea really.

You can carry and transit the virus for some number of days without showing symptoms. You have no way of knowing if you have been infected by someone within the last week who is not showing symptoms and has not yet been tested. That is the whole point why they want us distancing and isolating.

Reading comprehension on my part = fail. That is not what was said. :facepalm

I wonder if you would benefit from a day or two away from the constant hysteria feed of tv news and interwebs. For some people, this constant bombardment of nonsense can be quite stress inducing.

I keep 6 feet away from folks and am very isolated otherwise.

Very sobering video of American medical professionals speaking out about treating Covid-19 patients and of themselves via The Atlantic magazine:

https://youtu.be/OVp2U2p4lmE

Since there's no cure for this virus, better not to go to a hospital simply to die.

If you think you have this fucking disease, try to gut it out at home, take lots of hot showers, and consume spicy hot soup to get the phlegm out of your lungs and nasal passages.

Also use humidifiers to help put moisture back into the air and into your lungs.

Got a 100°+ F fever? Think ice. Apply ice to your body. Then take a hot shower.

I know I don't have much of a medical background, but if you end up with this virus, fight like heck to survive it.

The American Medical Association has weighed in on the Corona virus strategy: The Allergists were in favor of scratching it, but the Dermatologists advised not to make any rash moves. The Gastroenterologists had sort of a gut feeling about it, but the Neurologists thought the Administration had a lot of nerve. Meanwhile, Obstetricians felt certain everyone was laboring under a misconception, while the Ophthalmologists considered the idea shortsighted. Pathologists yelled, "Over my dead body!" while the Pediatricians said, "Oh, grow up!” The Psychiatrists thought the whole idea was madness, while the Radiologists could see right through it. Surgeons decided to wash their hands of the whole thing and the Internists claimed it would indeed be a bitter pill to swallow. The Plastic Surgeons opined that this proposal would "put a whole new face on the matter.” The Podiatrists thought it was a step forward, but the Urologists were pissed off at the whole idea. Anesthesiologists thought the whole idea was a gas, and those lofty Cardiologists didn’t have the heart to say no. In the end, the Proctologists won out, leaving the entire decision up to the assholes in Washington.
