I'm leaving Thursday from Alameda. I will be riding cuz that's how I roll. :ride

I'm leaving Thurs from Richmond - are you slabbing all the way up? I was planning to go Red Bluff or Redding through Lassen to Termo (Ravendale) so I could do the Buckhorn byway, but the route I was planning would take about 14hrs! I'd really like to be at the fairgrounds by early afternoon to help John and get settled, so instead I'm planning on shooting straight up 5 to Redding and 299 the rest of the way.

my two day route to Cedarville ... zoom-in-and-out map link.

got up at 3:30 am and worked an eight hour shift on Wednesday
and then left south of Market at 1:30 pm ...

just railed up I-80 in order to get where
I wanted to try to camp before dark ...

wsm.lake_.jpg

the view from Warm Springs Mountain, only a few miles south-west of Moonrocks, NV ...
can just glimpse Pyramid Lake in the distance ...

thanks to 2strokeYardSale who helped me find Warm Springs Mountain,
by posting a pic in his Spring has Sprung ride report in DirtyBARFing ... :ride

wsm.tent_.jpg

campsite on Warm Springs Mountain and the radio towers ...
this campsite was wonderful, offering a view of the sunset/sunrise along
with good cell phone reception ... :laughing

wsm.sunset2.jpg

alpenglow to the south above Reno ...

vp.road_.jpg

slept well, and got up in the am and went to look for
Virginia Peak on Thursday ...

vp.tower_.jpg

vp.snow_.jpg

found it!

the thin white line on the rhs of the top pic is Reno,
and there's another glimpse of Pyramid Lake beyond the snow ...

smokecreek.hotspring.jpg

from Virginia Peak, headed over Sand Pass to the
hot spring off Surprise Valley Road ...

smokecreekrd.cnyn_.jpg

after a blissful soak, found Smoke Creek Road and the emigrant cave in Smoke Creek Canyon,
part of the old Nobles Trail ...

Smoke Creek Road, on the way towards Susanville for gas ...

bbb.road_.jpg

then back eastward on the Buckhorn Backcountry Byway ...
think that's Fox Mountain in the distance ... :ride

fairground.jpg

finally pulled into the awesome fairgrounds that two wheel tramp
arranges for us to invade every year ...

m0t0_ryder.jpg

m0t0_ryder was already there, holding court, and would
keep us in coffee all weekend, ha.

campfire.jpg

tag3, nony mouse, Jim and Motopsycoman enjoying the campfire ...

needles.road2_.jpg

the Needles Rocks, on the north end of Pyramid Lake were--for once--
not being blasted by a howling windstorm, the way they've been
every single time I've ever been by there, so got to explore a bit ...

decided to ride the 500 miles home on Saturday,
which is always a foolish idea ...
next year the idea is to stay off Hwy 395 and ride
home on Sunday and Monday ...

Thanks again to awesome Rally Mistress two wheel tramp!
can't wait to do it again, next year ... :thumbup:party

I hate work and things that keep from events like this!!!! Looks like a beautiful place and a great time!!! Next year I really want to make this one! Thanks for the pics folks!

It really is a cool place to gather and ride.
Foresty hills and trails in the Warner Mountains immediately to the West and lots of desert options going East (Nevada about 10 miles), North (Oregon about 40 miles) and South (Black Rock Desert).

There's hot springs as close as a few miles (Surprise Valley) to others in Nevada (Soldier Meadows) and Oregon (Hart Mountains).
Also a nice little hot pool along the road about 25 miles from Cedarville.

A few of my pics...

Thank you for coming.

M0t0_ryder, a huge thank you for coffee, pastries and being the penultimate camp host. I can't thank you enough.

What no one has mentioned is that we got adopted by a local German Shepherd who I christened "Steve". I'm gonna miss that nut job.
