There seems to be an outbreak of peeps fitting after-market blue lights to their cars and trucks.

I don't get it. Isn't this an invitation to be pulled over? :wow

So far I have seen blue "fog" lights, blue headlights (yes actually blue), blue halo's around headlights and blue auxiliary lights.

Seen a couple of red/orange and green variations on the above as well.

Riddle me this.
It seems color changing lights with an app are a thing. I've had people see me with their illegal colored light, and change it back to a legal color as they get closer to me.

Sometimes I get them, sometimes they get lost in the crowd.

I have a similar question. What's up with motorcycles commonly having blue dot reflectors on the plates. They sell them at motorcycle shops along side red dots. Are the blue dots legal if it's only a reflector? I see motor officers have two actual blue lights on the rear of the bikes. I was assuming that's for others to identify it as a LEO. Thanks

It's for greater visibility. The red ones are legal. The blue ones are not.

But it's against the law to have a blue reflector? That's the first time I've ever heard that and see them for sale in literally every motorcycle parts store. :dunno

a few months ago I was heading to work and saw a guy on maybe a GS I think, he had flashing green and white front lights that were set up across the front of the bike - extremely bright and visible and he was using them while splitting.

Have never seen him again, but I have to say, it was effective. Cars saw him and moved. But I can't imagine it's legal.

One can purchase non-CARB compliant engine parts also, or non-DOT compliant parts - and the places selling them dutifully include the statement: "Off-Road Use Only". But that doesn't seem to stop people from using them on the roads...

Isn't a modulated (i.e. "flashing") headlight legal? I've seen those.

If a headlight (a white flashing light) is legal, then a green light is legal simply because it's neither red, yellow, or blue.

What I like are faux motor patrol escort bikes (those that direct traffic for funerals and such) and how they like to put blue tape at "strategic" locations on their bikes.

I saw a bike very similar yesterday evening eastbound on 237 as I was going in the opposite direction. It looked to be 3 forward facing auxiliary lights either side for a total of 6 - all flashing. Definitely noticeable!

Nope. You can only have white or amber lights to the front (or yellow for fog lights). Anything besides those is illegal.
