Washington, CA - anyone know about riding in this area?

Hey! I am looking at maps and the road I want to take into Washington shows a gate on Gaston Rd from Gaston. Any experience? It shows on a USFS survey map.

The area is north of the 20. South of the 49.

Ha, I had no idea it was actually called that. I just said that to differentiate from the state.

Used to hit the swimming holes out there twenty years ago. Still haven't been to the falls.

Have you been to the swimming hole east of the town with a abandoned
Crain you can jump off of?

Plumbago road has a couple of real cool bridges
Drops in to Alleghany. A really old bar there..
Then on to Tyler Foote crossing.

We would sometimes go as far as here, but usually we'd just find a spot before there with no people.

It was just a mile or so up the road more..
They built a new bridge up there last year..

In the group will be 3 Husqvarna's, 3 plated Yamaha WR's, and a KLX250 weighing us down :laughing

The idea started with Nevada City to Downieville, ~45 miles. I added a 45 mile loop north of the 49 for Saturday. Sunday, we hit Henness Pass road out to Jackson Meadows and Bowman, then work south west from there. Hoosier Rd through Gastson, continue to Washington. Then follow Relief road West. Sunday is about 80 miles.

If there are any areas I can add in, I would love to hear ideas.

The Plumbago rd, we are going to save for a future ride. I have my eye on Tyler Foote rd into Alleghany. When I started piecing together sections I had to fight off the feeling of regret, not hitting this area sooner. I have wasted years of my life!!!

I did a partial dirt ride with the Pashnit gang from Nevada City to Downieville years ago. Went across a neat old bridge and an old mining town of maybe a dozen homes with a dirt road through it. Don't remember any of the route though, plus it was just fire road stuff, but fun.

Make sure you hit Faucherie on the way out to Bowman, it's a nicer stop than Bowman. That whole Jackson Meadows, Bowman are is very pleasant, my favorite chill area to ride and swim.

North Bloomfield is worth a stop.
At this intersection the road goes to the little town of Washington.
There is a loop back up from there.

Posts like these make me wish I had a truck (and parking) so I could consider rides like this without having to spend half the trip, and half my rear tire tread, getting to and fro. Looks like a blast!

All the bikes have plates, but none of us enjoy going over 50. That's the only spot the klx has the advantage and its a slim one.

Once again, I want to thank everyone for their contributions and pointing to resources.

Fuck 2020. With the forests all shut, we are pivoting to an area of California that is less restricted.

I will post up pictures from the ride, but it won't be the Sierra's. I intend on doing this ride at a later time. Until then, ride safe!
