Turn in your badge

In the movies, whenever a cop gets suspended, they always have to turn in their badge. Just curious - does this happen in real life? My suspicion is that a suspended officer is just told not to come to work for a while, but they don’t bother doing anything with the badge. What say you, LEOs?

Riddle me this.
Depends.

I've heard of one case, where a guy was under criminal investigation, and if found guilty, would've been banned from possessing firearms and subsequently fired. So during the investigation he had to turn in his badge and gun and was put on desk duty.

But if they're suspended for a known duration and will be coming back to work, they keep everything.

Zoinks!!!!
It depends on what you are suspended for or accused of.

I know cops that were suspended and didn’t have to surrender any equipment and I know cops that were placed on paid administrative leave during an IA and had to turn in their badge, gun, and ID card.
