The Essential Trials Stickie

Yeah it was Clive and Matt's section but I had it clean all the way to that first big rock going up to the stream. Dabbed making the turn and up the rock easy, it was that next jumbled rock up, didn't make it and fell left into that pokey one. Didn't seem like a DNF fall to me, scratched the frame a little and was glad I had the fork protectors on there, didn't even think to look at the cases, it was that minor.

I keep hearing about " it takes time" and I understand that, I'm just trying to figure out what I get in return for this step back/adjustment. I like how you can place the front with the 4t, not sure about the rest. Mentally I feel it's more like a big cat ready to leap, the 2t is more like a gazelle ready to run; kinda the same way with the big bikes. 2t is more playful in my mind; 4t is more for purpose; I seem to do better when playing.

Brian is shipping me the replacement today/tomorrow so I'll have it up and running by the end of the week. Riding the Scorpa tonight, can't wait to see how it feels.

Enjoy the PT Sid (not), first step on a longer path but we'll be out riding soon.

Well I just got back in from an hour on the Scorpa....it was comfortable, smooth and had lots of power. Noticed the weight a bit too.
We'll see what happens at the Granite, as of right now I'm practicing on the Scorpa until then, maybe ride the 301 a couple of times (doubt it). I think I'm just a 2t guy.

Thanks guys ! I remember thinking, man I made a mistake, after riding the 4t beta for the first time and wanting to sell it and get the 300 2t, I just couldn't afford it...lol The sport to me is all about having fun, first and formost and what ever puts the biggest smile on your face is the winner. You looked good and confident on that last ride at Copper. The Montesa is obviously an awesome and competent competitor so maybe take both bikes to an event and ride them both on different loops if that's legal. I know that would be tuff to adapt but ride the open class on a Saturday or something. No crutches, I'm walking !!!!!!!

Well said Sid. I remember last year being stressed about the overall championship battling against Grosser. This year I'm having a lot more fun and riding has improved!

We are so lucky to have such a great club close by. Imagine living in an area where no one else rode trials? Scary!!!!

Event this weekend, am excited to ride it on the Scorpa and see what the difference is. My new 2020 is shipping today, should see it next week; basically the same thing but a little newer. This bike is from a pro rider so I'm guessing they set it up for him, will be interesting to see if it is much different from stock. I'll swap springs then see what I get.

Will have Penny with me this weekend, that oughta' be fun. Sent pics of the sunset from the last one and she wanted to come check it out in person! We'll get up Sat morning and I'll ride both days. I'm assuming you're up only on Sunday, right Mark?

87 riders last Saturday, wonder how many we get this time? Getting hard to find a place to camp up there with all the trailers and toy haulers.

Yeah Sunday only for me. 5 year wedding anniversary so doing day trip with family Saturday.

It will be curious to see how many riders, but thinking it will be high again. That one trial with low attendance probably had a lot to do with the Montana event lot of peeps went to.

Congrats on the NEW Scorpa. I heard Bryce wasn't happy on his 301 last Sunday either so you're not alone.

How's the PT coming along Sid?

Was a fun weekend all around, had Peanut with me and that always makes for a better time. Got up there Sat morning, played around on the Scorpa a little then rode the 0 line. Got 21 or something, had fun and did good on the bike. New scoring system was problematic and a little odd, good for distancing though.

Today was fun too, section 2 was tough but in a brand new spot on the neighbor's property, hard entry gates then up on some big rock slab that was a little puckering. 5'd it the first loop and managed a 2 on the 3rd. Almost got through 3 with a 1, got all the way to the big rock at the end in the creek and had to put a foot out, somehow stalled it! Got a 3,1,3 in 7, that one was a little tricky.

All in all, the Scorpa ran great and I had a good ride on it, even have a guy that wants to buy it for his son after I get the 2020. Felt like I got back to those little personal victories that make each event so memorable.

The guy that has the property on the left as you drive in. Just past the entry to the upper meadow where Clive got stuck in the stream crossing last year they opened up to the South of the road. Let a few park and camp there (Mark did Sunday). We then went off through the woods a little to a large rock slab area just below the freeway. Cool new spot.

On Saturday they didn't do score cards just gave each rider a number (I got lucky 13...), the checker then noted your number and score as you ran each section. You didn't go back to the scoring table between each loop and only yelled out your number to the checker. The tally took a while so awards were late, also didn't get to confirm your score at each section as easily as talking to the checker when they punch you. Went back to standard on Sunday as it wasn't much faster and folks ended up being close and talking to the checkers anyways. I wore a face covering for both days, half the checkers Sunday were wearing masks as well and the riders were pushing their bikes w cards towards the checkers while staying at the tail to try to keep more distance.

There's been talk of using transponders, not sure how that would go, low tech usually works better.

Glad you are getting the confidence back Luke! Saw your daughter hanging out around section 7, think I got out of there with a 1 but the first rock was catching lot of people out. Lost to Muldoon by 1 point but he hand an incredible last loop, 5 if I remember correctly. Howard DNF'd because of elbow issue which sucks. When does the new scorpa arrive?

That ADV B class is stacked. I think Brandt Kennedy is getting lessons from Dave Taylor since they both live in Reno. He's really improved a lot. Guess next couple events will be at PITS since Boreal doesn't want us back there and no permit secured for Bear Valley b/c of COVID. Rick mentioned something about Donner but not sure if it was for national event or not

First rock on 7 was pretty easy, got up that each time no issue, got my points on that double, just plain screwed it up on the last loop for no good reason.
Was curious about Brandt, didn't see his scores but have noticed he's gotten better. They started that new Mentor program for Saturday, if you're an upper class rider and are willing you ride around for the event with another, giving tips etc for those with you. Maybe even ride their line to show how you'd approach it; Bryce was mentoring Josh G, not sure how that went....Josh hurt his wrist in the gate trial at the end of Sat and had to bail for Sun.

Going up this weekend M? Got bunches of stuff to do at the house and all points are cancelled for this year. That being said I'd like to push selling the 301 and it would be nice to ride something other than my back yard for a change.
Thinking of a Sunday only trip, maybe up Sat night. Gotta' see who to check with if I go, never ridden a self check event (gonna get lots of 0's.....:)

Yes sir, but Sunday only. Step daughter has her behind the wheel driving test on Saturday and I think I'm as nervous as she is! Been practicing with her a lot but it's the little things like physically moving your head (versus looking in RVM with your eyes) that gets most people on the test.

Anyway I think you'll like the fun trial setup. I did the one at Schaad and there were no lines at sections, you could start whenever you wanted and wherever you wanted, etc. Isn't the same "pressure" for sure but like you said it will be nice to get out and ride something different!

Well?? Did anyone ride this past weekend??? We were at the property in Angels camp hit 111 on Sat too hot, woke up at 3:30 am and it was 88 degrees and a hell of an electrical storm show from our living room window....wow !

We had a good show here as well Sid! Yeah I rode Sunday only. Good event overall, real short loop and they gave you all three cards up front so people could ride sections 3x's in a run to finish early. Half the sections were on the new adjacent property which was really cool.

We rode traditional format doing all sections, rest, hit them again, etc. Got a nice little rain storm for maybe 10 minutes that made some rocks really slippery.

Think less than 30 riders. Mike got 1st (26), Jason on TRS got 2nd (35) and I managed third (37). That Jason guy is an incredible rider, used to ride expert level in UK. I see him going EXP when regular events start up again.

Can't wait for this heat wave to end!!!!
