Thank you for writing to support the "Driver Privacy Act." I appreciate the time you took to write, and I welcome the opportunity to respond.

As you may know, on January 14, 2014, Senator John Hoeven (R-ND) introduced the "Driver Privacy Act" (S. 1925), which would ensure that any data retrieved from passenger motor vehicle event data recorders is the property of the owner or lessee of the vehicle. It would also prohibit any person other than the owner or lessee of the vehicle to access the data unless he or she has court authorization, consent from the owner or lessee, or a need to facilitate an emergency medical response or research on traffic safety. S. 1925 has been referred to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, of which I am not a member.

I understand that you support this bill because you are in favor of giving owners and lessees control over the data gathered by vehicle event data recorders, and you would like to extend this protection to motorcycles. Please know that I have made careful note of your comments, and I will be sure to keep them in mind should S. 1925 or related legislation come before me for consideration in the Senate.

Again, thank you for writing. If you have any further questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact my Washington, D.C. office at (202) 224-3841, or visit my website at http://feinstein.senate.gov. Best regards.

Sincerely yours,

Dianne Feinstein
United States Senator

I got the same form letter. Worth less than the electrons. :mad

Would have been nice to include at least some kind of "well, this is my position on this matter" rather than just "I get that you care, talk to you later."

i see the price of non black box bikes going up.

Pretty much all bikes are non-black box right now, at least compared to the data collected by autos. We're concerned about in a pre-emptive sense.

agreed - but I would hope some admin is keeping track of her constituents values. It might not be a today victory, but I hope it may someday help sway the vote.

I have to give it up to the AMA for simplifying the "write your delegate" process. Simple, quick, and painless!

Not that great.. yeah.

But related to an accident so.. guess we have been living with it.
Not sure how often it is used. Anyone ever heard of it being used?

I know mine is briefly mentioned in my owners manual. I need to reread and see what rights Kawasaki asserts.

Seems like if govt. is involved, then possible 5th Amendment issues? No 5th Amendment with corporations through. I could see Kawasaki using black box data in a wrongful death suit as an affirmative defense. Likely a big reason they all probably have these now.
