Please sign petition to open Zero Emission OHV park in SJ

To whom are you presenting this petition? Why would the City or County of San Jose care if my uncle from Louisiana, or my cousin from San Diego sign the petition? My experience with government petitions is that they are usually verified against voter rolls. Shouldn't the focus be on the constituency of the officials making the choices?

The petition is to show that there are people that want OHV parks. The parks dept says that nobody does. They say people want cricket fields.

The results will be reported to the Mayor's office, Parks and Recreation and the Economic Development Division. This is not trying to get something on the ballot or anything like that so being a registered voter doesn't matter.

Any positive comments help even if not local. Last time I looked there were only a couple of out of state signatures, New York and Michigan and two international, Canada and Indonesia. The rest are 90% local and some from other places in CA.

Come on guys, whoever hasn't signed please do, if you have please share.

84 signatures needed to get to goal of 500. I think that would impress. Most of the city's public comment requests or meetings usually only get a few responses. I want the Mayor to hear "over 500 signatures and these 200 comments in support" at next Thursday's meeting.

Can anyone else attend the meeting? No need for a babysitter, bring the kids, I think that would be great. Let's send a message! Show your support for bringing back OHV recreation like it was back in the day.

Real cricket fields? I spell like a Brit, does that count?

Your response to me made it seem like the primary target is to impress the State Parks. Thus, they can pick-up the ball and advise for the off-road "clean" park and set parameters, if they think their constituents want something like that park. Now you are back to impressing the mayor, which is a different constituency. The city has a MILLION people. 500 locals is 0.0005% of the population. Surely that must be doable, if people want what you want. Not trying to be a dick. I am just being a realist with some (ignored here) experience.

State Parks is fully on board and staff will be at the meeting. It's the city that needs convincing. For one example, the Santa Clara County Parks land acquisition meetings only got 26 email comments so I think 200 comments and 500 signatures trumps that.

Email from State Parks:

All,

I would like to restate my desire to get this project moving forward.

The concept of urban parks was considered extremely important by the Parks Forward Commission’s report.

That report is driving the Transformation Team towards the future of California State Parks and your proposed OHV park would mark off a number of important boxes on the list.

First, partnerships are a priority and the State through the OHMVR Division of State Parks would partner with a non-profit and local government to develop and manage the facility.

Secondly, the urban parks mandate would be covered with the proposed location.

Thirdly, the environmental mandates would be stricter than a typical State Park due to the requirements of the OHV laws in California.

And lastly, the California Air Resources Board in conjunction with the OHMVR Division are moving towards a future plan with Electric/Low Emission OHVs.

I will make myself available to meet with you and any local city officials as we move forward.

Sincerely,
State Parks OHMVR Commissioner

San Jose This is a great idea!

San Jose "Creating this park is environmentally progressive and correct. San Jose can, and should, lead the world."

San Lorenzo "This is the first of its kind. I'm not anti-development in Si-Valley, but we need to look at this project as a different *kind* of development. If it doesn't work, at least we can say it was tried. If it does, you'll be the trail-blazing, and a model for the rest of the world to follow. If you just go with industrial development, you'll have squandered this opportunity for a different kind of business development."

San Mateo I support EVs and sustainable energy.

San Mateo I believe

San Mateo "Riding resources close to urban areas are a huge benefit to families, beginning and advanced riders."

Scotts Valley "I'm signing this because it is just plain out and out good idea and program.

I took a few years off but, yeah, 6 years ago. If nothing happens now it might not have a chance for 10 more years. I don't know if I can deal with that. I'm giving it my best shot now. I have all the bases covered for the city. All they have to do is say yes.

Come on people, the petition is pretty much stuck with 64 signatures needed to get to 500. I really, really want to tell them "over 500" Thursday. Get all your kids to sign it. we should be able to drum up 64.

LINK TO PETITION

Thanks!

I just sent this to my State Senator, Jim Beale:
I ask your support in a unique opportunity.

We, (Dean Stanford really) has laid the foundation for the world's first solar powered, zero emission recreational vehicle public park. This is here in San Jose, California, Capitol of the Silicon Valley.

There would be no cost to the city of San Jose. California State Parks and a nonprofit foundation will be responsible for all environmental restoration, habitat and species stewardship, planning the park and building the trails, nature education center and kiosks.

Most of the land will remain open space. For the use of a fraction of the land for trails the park will provide all of the funding, staff and expertise to restore, maintain and provide stewardship for all of the land. This is adjacent to the existing sewage treatment plant and is in conjunction with modernizing that plant.

Phase one is a 40 acre demonstration park that proves that zero emission recreational vehicles (two wheel) are a viable alternative to gas vehicles.

Phase two would environmentally restore the land and expand the park into hundreds of acres along San Francisco Bay.

The goals of the Zero Emission Park proposal are to promote electric vehicles, prove their viability for recreation, entice buyers to chose electric over gas powered vehicles and to provide recreational and nature educational opportunities in an urban environment for families and all users.

This site does not allow adequate space for everything I have to say. There is more here: https://www.change.org/p/san-jose-c...source=share_for_starters&utm_medium=copyLink

San Jose, and California, can lead the country, and the world, with innovative Parks like these.
