My name is Margie. My last name is not Norton. I have owned and ridden and swore at a 1975 Roadster for... at least fifteen or twenty minutes.

I also own a 2007 Triumph T100 because one needs something to ride that you don't have to work on all the time.

The Triumph is my current problem. It has almost 55,000 miles on it. I really like this bike. The ergonomics are great for me....

...BUT I like to go touring and I am concerned that a 13 year old bike with over 55,000 miles may decide to stop running someplace East of Boise.

Thoughts? suggestions?

A well maintained older bike with some miles on it can be very reliable, but it takes careful inspection and preventive maintenance.

Bikes often break down due to some easily rectified issue like worn out tires, chains and sprockets, or wheel bearings, loose spokes or nuts and bolts, loose battery terminals or a chafed or broken wire, etc.

I dunno anything about that particular model, there may be some known issues to pay attention to. But if you like that bike, give it some love and ride it everywhere!

Bike has been carefully maintained on service manual schedule BUT after being stranded 100 miles from home in 101 degree heat due to electrical problems (since expensively repaired by Munroe Moters) I am a little gun shy

Welcome Margie not Norton. Rode a BMW over 100k bought a V Strom with 58 and just sold it with 93,000. I’m planning on many long distance miles out of my 23,000 mile 2008 Triumph Tiger. Try to be prepared for the road and I’m sure a visit with Lucytriple should get your bike ready.
Understand about the Norton, I have great aural memories of one.
