Oakland Motorcycle Club - Early 20th Centurty

Came across this on StumbleUpon today. Some pretty cool shots of the bay area and motorcycle culture back then.

I've seen those hill climb pics before. They are actually taken in El Cerrito just east of San Pablo ave. I love those pics! Thanks for posting.

Someone should start a 150cc and under motopolo club!

Awesome! What I take from this is that we need to be more creative in how we have fun with our bikes. Polo? Sure. But chariot races? Hell yeah!

Did anyone notice that those guys are wearing bow ties?

They look like old-time preppies!

that makes sense

those like like a real bitcha to ride

Their not.. you just have to coordinate... It is funny to watch someone ride one for the first time. A friend of mine rode through a wooden fence- I still laugh about that. :laughing

OH- also- After you get going and retard the timing with the left hand, you reach down and dial in the main jet on the carburetor.. so youo're looking for the most amount of ignition retard and then dial in the fuel to it. More retard = more RPM and after a point, heat. So there's a delicate balance and it changes as the day and the engine heats up.

yeah, the good ol days!

Not sure if 4t are different but on 2t's we want our ignition to retard at high rpm's to help put the heat in the pipe and out of the cylinder....let's us run much cooler at high rpm's but then at lower rpm's you want more advanced timing to get more power......any different for 4t?
