Getting Older and Faster
Anyone have a little clarification on rule TE-2.11
Rider Identification outwardly readable on rider’s helmet?

Name?
Number?
Sizing of font required?
Can I write it with a sharpie?

Or will AFM provide a tech sticker with my number and that will suffice?

Thank you!

We went over this at the meeting tonight. The requirement does not take effect until 2021, and we have a product coming (sticker) that will meet the requirement hopefully by Round 2. Stay tuned. We've got an eblast to go out and clear things up.

What's the impetus behind this rule? How often are you trying to identify a rider in a helmet, away from their bike? How big will the numbers need to be that it will be visible from far enough away to be worth doing but not so big as to cover up ventilation/articulation of the helmet?

It's for the medical team in case of a crash to speed up the process. The stickers shown yesterday were small (not much larger than current AFM helmet sticker).

A few years ago, the AFM helmet tech sticker had the number on it. They were pretty fancy.

MA requires an emergency card in your suit - name, contact, blood type, allergies. that prob works better and is less inconvenient.

The stickers have a link to a QR code with all of the information for med professionals. These are currently in use on ambulances, etc. The time to attain critical medical information from a rider is near instantaneous in the lest invasive way. Pretty great advancement for us, IMO.

That, judging people, and criticizing people is what I’m best at.

Yup. Champion 2019!

That’s brilliant. Finally a real use for qr codes.

I'd talk with the ER Doctors about the notion of "Blood Type" being on there. I don't know of ANY medical professional that would push blood without doing their own typing or relying on a sticker- in the malpractice category. Save the distraction and use the room for something useful that wouldn't be ignored anyway.

An Ambu crew never pushes blood. Get a real Doctor's & Medical Risk Manager's view.

Agree Norcal. The reason we like the stickers with QR codes is all the information contained is on the rider themselves. The AFM doesn't furnish the info, the rider does. Thanks to Paul Keiffer for finding this solution.
