Knoxville Devilhead Rd as part of the ADV / DS ride?

wow, how cool is that? fun pic ... :ride

no, the falls I've seen pics of are much smaller and in a creekbed ... Zim Zim is south of the little waterfall I've been trying to find, if I'm looking at the map right?

anyway, never heard or seen a pic of Zim Zim falls, thanks for the link! looks like a hike (?) I'd love to make to get my own pic ... :thumbup

Oh for sure check it out if you've never been. It's kind of surprising at first, like what is this huge awesome waterfall doing here.

cool, thanks ... looks like I gave up walking around 1/2 way. :laughing:facepalm

It happens... I gave up after I spent 30 minutes with my AT's rear tire stuck in what felt like the teeth of a dragon atop of that waterfall and turned around.

To my knowledge, if you can get over this thing which I am sure is pretty easy if you start from a different point than I did, that is the start of Devils Head rd. Which I want to do but, not by myself especially on unknown terrain.

Will join there. Love Mercury cafe scones :)

:thumbup

Yes, the scones are awesome ... we're picking up a Thanksgiving pie, tomorrow.

He's talking about opening up again on Sunday, if that's the case, I'd like to show up to support Sunday hours, so I'll post up in the other thread if that works out for this coming Sunday.

we start most of our ADV/vintage rides by meeting there in the morning. :ride

East (bottom of pic) to West (top of pic) (I think) it would be as you are coming from Clearlake side (Morgan Valley Rd) from the North Entrance to the campground. Once at the campground, you will see like a little wooden barrier with an opening in it. Go through it and stay to your right. Follow that, you will then run into it.

Cool. Thx. It does look on my map, if you made it over the water fall that trail does loop back around to Knoxville Devilhead Rd. From google earth it looks like I should take the 350 instead of the 950.

Probably the best bet. Let me know how it goes if you do go, If I had the free time available I would join you on the Africa Twin. Finding new trails is always a good time.

This map www.4x4trailmaps.com/Files/Maps/knoxville.pdf makes it clear that there is a loop back to south entrance. Looking at the topo, it looks like the drop off isn't as steep as coming from the campground, maybe going to the waterfall from Devilhead instead of the campground won't trigger my fear of heights:laughing

I'm going on Sunday with some other folks possibly. I'll report back and anyone is welcome to join. Planning to go from campground down and around. :thumbup

Have two or three other barfers meeting at the north entrance on plated dual sports on Sunday at 9am if anyone wants to come ride. Post up here if we should expect you. Assume ksu 9:30am from North entrance.

We plan to ride to the Hunting Creek Campground and take the trail to the waterfall and do the loop past there to Devilshead rd and then figure it out other trails from there.

A buddy and myself are planning to be in the neighborhood, but probably an hour plus behind you and we'll be coming in from the south entrance. Not sure, if either of us are up to tackle the waterfall trail, we may just wait for your report:thumbup

Cool. There are going to be a couple of us. I'll be on a 350 excf. I think there will be a beta, crf450l and another ktm450 and possibly a wr450 in our group depending on who shows up. After the waterfall we plan to come back up Devilshead Rd and then not sure what we will do.

So we found the waterfall! Not much water falling but was a fun trail. Super glad I was on the 350 and not the 950 because it was loose and rocky in a couple places and it would have been exhausting on a big bike.

One of the guys slipped on some algae crossing the water fall and took a dip in the water by mistake! I was too slow getting my phone out to document it but got some of the aftermath.

So the trail from the campground to the waterfall is very easy. After that it gets more rocky and less flat. There were a few climbs up loose rocky stuff but nothing impassible. Just need to keep momentum going in a few spots.

After that we found some more trails on the north end to explore and I’ll be going back to hit more of those trails.
