Is this remotely legal?

I've got a question but don't want to start a new thread.

When leaving my jiu jitsu school everytime, the traffic signal between exiting the plaza and the freeway on ramp I take home has a 'no right on red' sign. It takes forever. So I'll often cut into the gas station on the corner then cut back out and on to freeway.

Illegal? Or just more of a :wtf if you were to see it? LEO's if you saw me do this, would you pull me over and maybe just be like, "dude... stop that." or is it actually something worthy of a citation.

Easy answer, just be more patient? Sure.

Here's a poorly drawn picture to help. :x

er, I do shit like that sometimes, if there is no traffic and I don't want to wait for the robot.
I have a couple places where is is perfectly legal because there is an intersection which makes the U turn absolutely legal.

And I never hit anyone. So far.

I've always understood that to be illegal, however as I'm frequently incorrect as shown in this thread I'll plead the 5th

AFAIK, there is no traffic sign/signal avoidance law in California.

I've never found a law that applies to that, and I've done it in a patrol car so I sure hope it's not illegal :laughing

Okay. Good to know. Somedays I don't do it because I'm not sure if I've been getting away with murder for years. :laughing

I'll keep it up!

Interesting. This is in Orange County/Irvine.

I'll look into it.
