Getting back on the bike

I hope that this thread will not just be about me, but help encourage others to share their 'hooray I'm better!' stories and be a light at the end of the tunnel for those who are still healing (and not to rub it in their faces :twofinger).

I'm proud to say that 7 weeks after accidentally going deer-hunting with my bike, I slung a leg over and started commuting on two wheels again. Despite breaking my clavicle I've had no pain or reduced ROM so it wasn't the riding part I was apprehensive about, just the stopping part (since my crash squished my right foot I was worried if it would hold up the bike). I'm happy to report that all body parts functioned perfectly and the only negative part was finding out how out-of-shape I've gotten (my new leather overpants are not very forgiving on my waistline). More motivation to get back in shape and enjoy the winter!

Day 0 - crash :mstingray
Day 1.5 - clavicle repair surgery, rent wheelchair
Day 5 - arm feels awesome again
Day 8 - doctor says, 'you'd better not be thinking about riding right away' :(
Day 35 - doctor gives the ok to start using full ROM for the arm; start walking again with a ankle brace/compression cuff
Day 38 - start PT for the ankle, walking without the ankle brace
Day 40 - new riding pants come
Day 49 - enjoying riding again! :party

Something about those deer hits really makes getting back on spooky as hell.

For me throwing a leg over and riding wasn't an issue, but riding without fear proved to be a hurdle.

Good on you for getting back on two so quickly. :party

Congrats!

I am back on the bike as of now too. Not ridden since Jul 10.

No emotional or bike control issues so far. Def more careful at intersections and aware of idiot cagers though.

Thanks to all on Barf for the kindness and encouragement. Ride safe!

Congrats buddy, I sadly sold my bike after debating for almost 2 months on whether or not I should fix it back up or save up for the bike I want. :p So I should be back on the doubles soon, as early as the beginning of next month probably.

Getting back on wasn't a question for me. I knew I would do it. But it was a challenge and considering it wasn't my bike made it all the more risky.

But since my big crash I do ride different. For awhile there I thought I rode slower, and then I did a track day and my lap time had dropped by 10 seconds since before the crash.

We do surprise ourselves sometimes.
