Easter Sunday Mt Tam Sunrise Ride

two wheel tramp

exploring!
I'd do this with the mrs if I had a bike that was ok two up. She refuses to even look at the back seat on the Panigale. I don't know why. It's luxurious. All 3 square inches of it.

edit: tiger is in the shop getting a gremlin exorcised.

Come borrow my GS?

Come borrow my GS?

Thanks for the offer!

I planned a ride on sunday as I didn't expect to do this thing, got a few peeps coming. I will need a little sleep. It's my woman's birthday today so doing a big thing with family etc.

But I'll definitely be coming to the next one now I know about it - and I'll have a Multistrada by then.

Yeah, I'm turning into a ducati dickhead.

Is it a fair assumption every year that TAM Junction Arco will be jammed with bikes about 5 am and the gates will magically open?

we’ve had good luck with the gate and the weather the last few years ...
have a thread on here from maybe four years ago where I was
locked out and missed the sunrise because the ranger only showed up
at the usual time to unlock the gate ...

anyway, it’s a fair assumption people will be at Tam Junction this year
because they were there last year, and I think people were good about
being sure to pay the fee so maybe the gate will be open tomorrow ...
don’t recall having to wait at the gate like we have to sometimes ...

to me the risk of the magic gate makes the sunrise
from the watch tower that much more fun ...
never really know if everything is going to fall
into place any given year so when it all goes perfectly
it feels awesome ... :party

awesome pic ... let the locked gate turn me around ... :laughing

Does sound like most folks braved the gate and got to see a beautiful sunrise ...

I got to meet Stephen down by the locked magic gate, who says he's the contact with the Park Service and said that he'd gotten the proper permits for this year and that the reason the gate didn't get unlocked the way it was supposed to be was probably a man-power issue ...

Stephen said he'd simply get the key next year ...
said he's been doing the ride for 40 years and just wants to keep it going ... :angel

BARF Baja vet Windsor was there with his hand-crafted bodywork/gas tank made by Rob D. who was also there this am ...

got to see five BARF Baja veterans, BARFer johnk (who also has a Rob D. tank/bodywork on his Herron-head M-G)
and a bunch of Mad Dog peeps ...
my spies tell me two wheel tramp made it to the top ... :angel

maybe I'll make it to the top for the sunrise next year ...
hear the key may be there in 2020 ... hopefully the weather will cooperate again ... :ride

see you around
the campfire,

Hey Barfers - I'd love to plan a peer event up on Mount Diablo for a sunset ride around the Autumnal equinox. Does anyone on this thread know who or how to work with the state park service to get their blessings?

Easter Sunday is April 12, 2020 ... :ride

have a vague plan to be at Tam Junction at 5:30 am.

here’s the info I have about the possibility of the gate being open:

I got to meet Stephen down by the locked magic gate, who says he's the contact with the Park Service and said that he'd gotten the proper permits for 2019 and that the reason the gate didn't get unlocked the way it was supposed to be was probably a man-power issue ...

Stephen said he'd simply get the key next year ...
said he's been doing the ride for 40 years and just wants to keep it going ...

forgot to ask Stephen for contact info, though I’ve been just showing up for years and years, which has generally worked out.

we’ve had an incredible run of good weather the last few years and recently, so we’re due for rain ... :toothless

see you under the watch-tower, if everything goes perfectly ... :party

It would be real nice to get the gate open. Horsing the FJR around the gate was an experience.
