DRZ small tank woes

I've had the DRZ for a couple months now, but just really started riding it a bunch more on the past month. Lotsa fun. It's taking a bit to get dialed in. But I'm really enjoying the small bike, even as a Bay Bridge commuter.

BUT GODDAMN THAT TANK IS SMALL! I feel like I'm filling up all the time. ThumperTalk seems to prefer the Clarke 3.9 tank to IMS 3.2 quality wise. Although a lot of people prefer the way the IMS looks. I thought I wasn't so vain, but man, that Clarke tank is a beast. Also, I feel like most of the tank review threads in Thumpertalk appear to be a few years old.

Are Clarke & IMS the only direct swap tanks for the DRZ400SM still? It seems like the Acerbis tanks are only for the E model & require some work, maybe even modding a bracket for the seat, to work.

Thoughts?

You covered it all. The Acerbis tank does need some work to fit.

I have the Clarke 3.9 and while its not the best looking, you never see how it looks when you're riding. Its a big wider than the stock tank (as I believe all the aftermarket tanks are) but all concerns about style or looks fall away when you have all that extra range. I have a yellow plastics with a yellow tank and being able to see exactly how much fuel you have is great. No guessing. Downside is no locking gas cap which could be a problem if you park outside in urban areas.

Get the 4g IMS which incorporates the radiator shrouds. Had it on my old one and it was great. I had bought a plated SM frame and a K bike and swapped everything over. I can't remember the specifics, but something was different where the tank meets the subframe. Two bolts versus the rubber thing, maybe? I dunno, but I remember it wasn't a deal breaker. Sold the bike and totally regretted it, so I have another plated SM frame sitting here until I find another K.

Ive got the Clarke 3.9. Bought the bike with it. I don't really mind how it looks.
