Have to put the push on.. perhaps in response to taking OHV funds.. someone is thinking of us.

From the AMA:

Bill introduced to reopen riding in California's Clear Creek area
PICKERINGTON, Ohio -- Some 70,000 acres of public land in California that has been off-limits to off-highway-vehicle riders since 2008 would reopen under legislation introduced by U.S. Rep. Sam Farr (D-Calif.), the American Motorcyclist Association reports.

On Aug. 2, Farr introduced a H.R. 6286 that would designate the popular Clear Creek Management Area near Hollister -- which is controlled by the U.S. Bureau of Land Management -- as a National Recreation Area. If the bill becomes law, it would provide for recreational access to the land as allowed under the BLM's 2005 travel management plan.

The 70,000 acres have been closed to the public -- including OHV riders and hikers -- since May 1, 2008, because of fears over health dangers posed by naturally occurring asbestos in the soil. The land has remained off-limits, even though a later study showed that the health risk to motorcyclists from naturally occurring asbestos is minimal.

The San Benito County Board of Supervisors has been at the forefront of the movement to reopen the popular OHV area, petitioning Congress to consider Clear Creek a National Recreation Area that would allow motorized and non-motorized recreation.

Western Representative Don Amador of the BlueRibbon Coalition, a national trail-based recreation group, has also been hard at work in an effort to reopen the land.

"It's very rare for legislation to be introduced in Congress to open riding areas to riders," said AMA Western States Representative Nick Haris, who has worked with Amador on the issue. "Rep. Farr and the San Benito County Board of Supervisors deserve the thanks of all OHV enthusiasts for their efforts. And I personally want to thank Don Amador for his tenacious work in this area.

"With the elections coming up, I think it's very important for California OHV enthusiasts to ask political candidates where they stand on this proposal," Haris added. "We need to hold them accountable on this issue."

I just sent this to my congressperson, Zoe Lofgren:

I have been in your office twice in regards to the inappropriate closure of the Clear Creek Management Area and the misdeeds of the BLM. The BLM is operating contrary to public needs and desires, and wasting millions of dollars in construction/ destruction and causing millions more in economic hardship to local communities.

I would like to see Rick Cooper, manager of the Hollister Field office, held accountable for his actions, many which I believe are illegal, and certainly in violation of the NEPA process.

Congressman Sam Farr has introduced HR6286 to create the Clear Creek Recreation Area, with trail use and designations as they were in 2005. This is appropriate.

Please support this bill and encourage your fellow members of legislature to do the same. It will do much for the health of the community.

It would be good to have some review of the BLM too, and have Rick Cooper fired.

I just met Sam Farr, and his entourage.
very, very cool gathering. I got to meet all the good folks that I had not previously, and see the backbone of this movement again.

Sam Farr is a good Guy. Margie Barrios rocks. Sheriff Darren Thompson is way cool. Plus government 101, about Washington (those fuckers) and what they are doing.

Jeeze, I think most the public has no idea who their elected officials are, and what they do. It is really, really cool when you can do a "face to face" and they tell you what they are doing and ask you what you think is important.

Sam Farr just did this. Kudos.

More to follow.

I see Farr's intent as creating a National Recreation Area at the Creek and a Nat'l Park at Pinnacles, efficiently sharing the same management resources and bringing $$$ to his district. This would make almost everyone, excluding Jere Johnson and the Pooper, happy.

I never could finger out why Pooper closed the Creek; it must be part of JJ's ego boosting play to demonstrate her power to protect the populace. These two have created untold grief and cost local businesses millions, and wasted millions in tax payer dollars illegally destroying the existing infrastructure.

Can we all ask our Congress persons to support Farr's bill, and fire Johnson and Cooper?
