Buying a plated bike...

Hey All,
I am looking at buying a CA plated ktm 525 or a CA plated CRF 250. My friends have mentioned "grey plated" in which when I go to the DMV they might revoke the plates. It would freakin suck to go through the process of getting a bike to find out its not street legal.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

It's not strictly-speaking legal, but unless you do something fantastically stupid and piss off a cop badly enough that they look for equipment violations to throw the book at you, you should be okay.
