Hey Barf,

I had a unfortunate off on Monday 10/9/17

youtu.be/sKsKJM1jyOg

It happened pretty quick, rider clipped my rear in turn 8 @ 100mph +, emt and my chart said i launched 40-50ft away from my bike at 90mph+

I blacked out for quite a while on track which led to a helo ride to enloe chico.

I am super grateful for my friends for draggin my crap back and the instructor @ the actual trackday, although I have not retrieved any of my shit yet.

So i was left with a broken ankle that was planned for surgery on Tuesday 8am, bruises all around my shoulders and knees, and a serious concussion on my front forehead, unfortunately a life threatening procedure came in tuesday am and bumped me till thursday, at that time i got asked to be discharged back to santa rosa.

Thankfully kaiser dispacth was able to reroute me to the san rafael office, which i pushed extremely hard for surgery to happen on 10/13/17, i actually was waiting in ortho surgeon room on thursday just hoping they could squeeze me in that night.

Pain throught this time was a constant 6 climbing to a 7-8 every now and then, after surgery friday my pain has shot up to constant 7-8 with spikes of heavy heavy throbbing.

Long road for recovery, once in surgery some more nasty fractures showed its head, and i actually got 3 screws instead of 1 and had alot more broken bones in my foot then what was shown on xrayz, its a sad and sore subject to talk about, ive had messages pour in how I should give up motos :thumbdown

So much I have actually started to measure life without 2 wheels :wow :wtf

Thanks for hearing me rant, and last but not least I love my girlfriend tremendously for her help and support through this so far, and am very saddened I had to put her through this, the worst is canceling our end of oct maui vacay that was planned since this feb.

We feel your pain, though as much as you do.
It is normal to analyze everything in your mind, because of drugs, pain & emotions. Ponder it all but don't act until it becomes clear.
Count your Blessings every day.
Wish the best for you.

Ouch! Well don't skimp on the pain meds. If your @ 7-8 pain level you need to do something, or the docs need to do something for you. Are you taking your pain meds?

Get well soon!

ah that sucks man - best on a speedy recovery but don't push it! Make sure that ankle is 100% before you get back out there.

Ive been able to literally double down my pain meds.

I was one pill every 4-6hours from breakout pain to 2x every 3x hours now.

I really dont want to be bound to these pain meds, which is the only rhing giving me a few hours of numbness and freedom from pain rifht now

After my clavical i took my max prescribed 2 pills every 4 hours. After a week, i was down to 1 every 4 and heading towards just ibuprofen.

Take them as prescribed to you, so you have no pain. You will come out ok on the other end. And when you run out, just don't go hunting for more. Its hard to come off them at first because you're afraid of the pain, but you will realize that you will be ok.

It takes weeks for things to start to feel normal/OK. Do not worry. It was a bad hit. I've had a few, it takes time, but you recover. Do what the docs say. And call them if your pain isn't under control, so they can help get it under control.

As to whether you ride again or not. Thats your decision, nobody elses. I couldn't even look at moto vids after my first big crash. But 6 months later i had a new (to me) CBR sitting in the garage waiting for the next season when i could ride again :cool

Keep us posted on your progress. I'm 1 month out from my clavicle surgery. And the progress in mobility has been 10x for the past week. I'm at 90%+ mobility now compared to two weeks ago when i could barely lift my arm. When i broke my knee it was about 1-2 months before i hit 90% mobility, so every injury is different and joints can be tough, but if you can get good PT, do it, it will make a huge difference.

Best wishes for a complete recovery. Like others have said things will improve with time and effort. I hope you can get the pain down and focus on your recovery.

The saddest thing is you got taken out by someone else...:thumbdown
It happens though; don't let it get to you.

Before you know it you will be back aboard again loving the freedom & beauty of riding! :ride :teeth

Hope all goes well and you can make a full recovery.

As to riding again, well, that is up to you and you alone, but don't go selling stuff just yet!

Pain meds are there for a reason. If you're in pain, use them. Sleep is VERY important to healing, so use them as you need to. Even if you end up on them longer than you want, you can wean yourself off, just takes some time. Having now gone through 4 surgeries in less than a year on the same leg, I can tell you that once things are past those big healing stages, getting and staying off the meds isn't too bad.

Life on crutches sucks, but you can adapt. For me, getting back on the bike was huge - gave me motivation to keep dealing with all the crap I've had to deal with. Maybe not the "wisest" choice in terms of physical healing, but mentally it was needed. But everyone is different.

not to get on a soap box here but i've got 3 herniated discs in my spine and CBD pods (oil or edibles) have helped immensely in between steroid injections in my spine.

YMMV and i'm by no means a doctor or any of that disclaimer shit - i'm just a dude in typical heaps of pain that was sick of taking pain pills and it helped me.

I feel for you!

Had a slow shunt at T-Hill West on 10-14 and was thrown into my head and back and fractured my Scapula in three places. No surgery and after two weeks of ice/heat I’m getting range of motion back little by little.

I, too, had dark thoughts about a no Moto future. It’s passed and I’ll be fixing the bike next month.

Take your meds, stay positive and know you have brothers/sisters pulling for you.

Bob
