BDR 2020

Is anyone riding a BDR route in 2020? I'm thinking about UT in the spring and CA or NV in the winter. It'd be great to put together a BARF crew to ride with.

Alternately, if anyone has experience with these (or any BDR) routes, kindly share your wisdom.

You might not be able to finish CA or NV in the winter. I tried NV in the in like late September and I couldn't finish the last section. I did CA in like February and I ran into snow several times half way. The last section was particularly an adventure with the snow.

These routes are from south to north and it's warm when you start out and cold when you get to the north. Also if you are trying to get back to bay area through a Sierra Pass like Tioga you won't be able to do it in the winter you'll have to go around the Sierras like i did.

I have a thread about the CABDR right here never finished it though =/

That's a good point about getting back to the Bay Area through the Sierras in the winter.

Thinking specifically of the CA BDR, I was trying to think of a way to drive the bike(s) to the start and have the truck waiting at the finish, which would solve the weather issue and eliminate a lot of crappy freeway miles. I haven't quite figured that one out yet, short of asking a huge favor of my wife.

Great YT videos, by the way.

You could also do half and come back later and do the other half. Like do the southern portion in winter then the northern in the summer. For the CABDR I would wait till Tioga Pass open then ride it, so you get a nice ride home.

Also recommend on getting the Butler Map totally worth it for planning.

Also would like to point out that the CABDR is supposedly one of the harder BDRs. To be honest though I had ridden some of it already and it's about as hard as the NVBDR. The Idaho BDR I heard is among the easiest.

I'll be doing a bigger piece of the IDBDR this year. There is only about a four month window when it's clear of snow the whole length and I've been on it on both ends of that window.

My own opinion of the two small sections I've been on is that it's beautiful riding on roads that are challenging, but not super difficult on a big adventure bike. Unless it's muddy or there's snow. They picked some great roads for the route. Very scenic and fun to ride.

I can post photos if you're interested (they're already in this huge thread).

If any of you want to come do it in Idaho, I'll be happy to be your guide for the southern section.

Definitely interested in the Idaho BDR. What's the timeframe that you're looking at?

(Killer photos, BTW).
