I am here because I wear my leather race suit when I go ride in the mountains. July 4th around lake Berryessa, came around a curve as a cop was coming the other way, 1/4 second inattention saw me fly down a 15' ditch full of boulders. Fractured 7 ribs, 3 vertebraes, scapula and ankle along with clapsed lung. 2 weeks in ICU and 10 at home in and out of bed. Oh by the way, not a scratch on my new Rossi replica helmet but sadly only 2 days before 3 week European vacation (wife not too happy). If it wasn't for suit, spine protector and all the padding I probably would be dead or still in the hospital. To all that I see sometimes in Tshirts, wear your gear.
About to start rebuilding the Street triple R so if anyone knows where I might find an engine and tank. Only 2 items broken.
Anyways be safe out there.

Oh man... glad you are still with us. Sounds like some battling went on. Hope your health is better and a full recovery is ahead. I assume it is if you are rebuilding your bike. :cool

Oh man that sounds rough. Glad you’re still here and things are improved for you. Best wishes for a full recovery and I hope you get that bike running soon. Check that helmet carefully if you haven’t already. My bike helmet didn’t have a scratch on it after a recent crash but the foam shell was still damaged and cracked.

My helmet had just a slight sprinkling of small impact marks and otherwise looked fine. My concussion disagreed and lasted for about 3-6 months.

Thanks for posting this.

I don't ride street that much any more. But your post makes want to wear ATG more than I have been and rethink/upgrade the gear I have.

Hope your healing is quick

Cheers

Terrible! Horrible! Holy OUCH Batman. Those vertebrae fractures can be the absolute worst!!! Yes the others hurt too, but I don't think my back ever recovered from that. Note this:

DO NOT, repeat, do not go back to work too soon. I was back lifting at work far too soon, & I still feel those breaks = I feel like they never fully recovered. I can tell when it's about to rain too! Owe.

I sincerely hope you get well soon. Take your meds, don't be brave, take it easy, watch tv/video/whatever, just be easy on yourself f/a bit bro. You got the rest of your life to ride...relax for a bit.

Get well soon!!! :ride

OP, glad you're still here to tell us about this, and glad you had on all that you did. Hope you heal up well without any extra complications, keep us posted on your progress.

Sounds like you took quite the tumble, and tangled with some objects tougher than you, but at least you're talking about it!

ALWAYS wear your gear. I got taken out by someone making an illegal u-turn in town. I was going maybe 25mph, but had almost no time to react, so the hit was still pretty hard. Got flipped over his pickup and landed on the other side. Bruise on my ankle bone (from my landing on the ground on the other side of his truck) was all I had to show for it BECAUSE I was wearing all my gear.

Crashed my scooter in the pits with no gear on, lucky if I was up to 10mph, and 3 weeks later the road rash is just healing up (found out the hard way the front end got dorked when the scoot was tied down on the trailer).

Gear may be a pain, but the annoyance is a million times better than the possibilities....
